What genre would you consider Protest the Hero and does anyone know some good bands that are similar to them?

Idk maybe just metal would be appropriate. Someone might call it somewhat close to shred to a certain extent. Maybe hardcore.
Basically metal though because they mix so many metal elements.

Check out Scary Kids Scaring Kids they have good guitar lines and similar vocals however are not as good or better than PTH.

yea scary kids are good. I also like dragonforce because of the crazy guitars in that also. it's hard to find other bands like pth and df though.

Other bands with good guitars are.

A7X
Fall Of Troy
Coheed And Cambria

None are really a lot like pth or df though.

You sound like you'd like Buckethead (old buckethead)

Or maybe metallica (kill em all, and justice for all, ride the lightening, master of puppets)

i classify protest the hero in a genre i like to call shitcore. its where i put all bands i think suck ass. ya know they got booed off stage in philly when they opened for dragonforce, and there are no good bands similar to protest the hero, because protest the hero isnt a good band.

I classify them as a band who try something complex and interesting, and then have it end up as an embarassing mess. Their singer also sounds like Sonny Moore. Eurgh.

I've only listened to them for like 10 minutes, in which I thought it was interesting, got the full length and the songs did not hold my attention for me to get through it. I liked them when I listened to them before I was to go to the Bled show, but with bands like the Bled and Since By Man and As Cities Burn on the bill, they would have been overshadowed anyway. I wound up not going, and have yet to give Kezia a real shot.

i thought they held their own at the dragonforce show in cleveland. but dragonforce was playing, so i forgot about them. quickly.

i think everyone who went to a show on that tour did the same thing you did once dragonforce hit the stage. i still dont understand how they opened for them. anyone know?

of course there's always going to be better bands, more experienced with better exposure and probably a better record contract, but for being a group of 20 year old boys, Kezia and Protest The Hero hold true. They are talented, driven and just cocky enough to be hilarious. Maybe Rody's voice gets to you, but at least the guitaring makes up for it. If you're unsure if you like them and have the opportunity, see them live. I was sold after buying Kezia but the live performance really drove it home.

the vocalist gave us free stickers and buttons of them at warped tour, probably because we were some of the few to catch their set and approach them afterwards.

i'd like to categorize them as being "post hardcore math metal" but i'm not positive, i suck at labelling bands.

they're decent, the vocals are kinda ehh. i have to be in the right mood to listen to them, otherwise they'll annoy me.

I like Protest the Hero.. I just recently started listening to them.. they kind of remind me of Killswitch Engage.

And I think their genre would be metal.

I'm going by Protest's song "Bury the Hatchet".. how does that not sound like Killswitch? I mean.. he has the screaming mixed with the normal singing.. even the guitar riffs sound similar. Maybe you should check that out again. Jeezus.
