and if they did go with brand new, they would go with their masterpiece, not their stepping stone.

Yeah, Brand New's my favorite band, but that's definitely not their best.
TDAG could be the album of the decade for a little less than half the users, maybe, but you could never define a universally loved album for AP. There are so many conflicting opinions here that it's hard to pick just one record that defines all the users.
But for me, obviously, TDAG has been the record that really got me into music other than Fall Out Boy and shit. The most influential record I've ever listened to.

Yeah, a lot of people feel really strongly about Deja. I liked it when I was younger, but it didn't do a lot for me. I just don't think the time was right, you know?
TDAG was something totally different and strange and foreign for me and I loved every second of that first listen.
It made me realize that music doesn't have to always sound "pretty" and I liked that, haha.

I think Deja is one of the albums of the decade for this website. But for me personally it's FOB's FUCT and The Format's Dog Problems.
And I think choosing just one album of the decade is way way too hard.

judging by how it performs in polls, it is without a doubt the strongest contender for it, if there was an album of the decade, which seems like a silly idea. you can't define a single year with one album, let alone an entire decade.

Sophomore year of high school, I went to a movie with a girl who I liked and she turned on "Barbie Girl" in the car on the way there (she drove, mind you, because I'm a bum), and I realized at that point in time I would either marry this girl or hate her very existence. The relationship lasted barely over a week.

in the context of music predicated entirely on rock instruments, yes, OK computer is a masterpiece. lol

The great thing about OK Computer is that while it is very complex and developed, at the same time it is very mainstream, radio ready and easy to listen to. Sometimes I find myself getting into OK Computer more than Kid A.

hahaha well i was exaggerating a bit, it wasnt a castle but it WAS like a 19th century mansion previously owned by someone of very high status and royalty in britain. the vocals in "exit music (for a film)" were recorded in a narrow stone stairwell and a lot of the full band arrangements were recorded at the same time in ballrooms and shit, thats how it sounds so spacey and meshes together so well.

really though the album is such a technical marvel, ESPECIALLY "paranoid android" and "climbing up the walls" for me -- the former because of its ridiculous chord progressions and SOMEHOW smooth and accessible melodies over the top, the latter because the production is so densely layered and dynamic leading up to the most dissonant and powerful climax ive ever heard in non-orchestral music.

latter. not ladder.
i can see why people would favor iarb over idotg, but saying it's infinitely better is a bit much. i think the good song/bad song ratio for both is the same, but i like idotg's style in general a little bit more, even though it is longer and kind of all over the place.

Let us not also forget Three cheers for sweet revenge. Not to say I actually liked that album but there was a 6-12 month period where MCR was the biggest band in the scene.
Personally, mine would be some combination of Come on feel the Illinoise!, Deja, In Rainbows, Tell all your friends, Piceresque by the Decemberists, Full Collapse, The Con by Tegan and Sara, Nightmare anatomy by Aiden (Kidding), Trainwreck by BNO (not kidding)

Oh man. This reminds me of that time I went to the mall with this cute guy freshmen year of college. During the trip, he played a mainstream pop song in the car and I realized at that point that I would either go to the extremes of either marrying him (which isn't even legal!) or murdering his family in front of him while he was bound and gagged before slitting his throat based entirely on his enjoyment of this pop song! I'm pretty sure the consensus among staffers and the general posting public would be Slayer -- Reign in Blood.
Agreed. (Am I doing it right?)
(Actually, I thought Dookie was the site's new favorite album. I know these trends go in cycles, but dang... It's getting impossible to follow these days.)
The relationship lasted two days, his mother's torture lasted nine. She was a tough old bird.
I laughed.
Why do you hate me when I show you nothing but love?
Did you read his story? He obviously has a thing for torture. I think it's his own special way of flirting with you.

Dookie came out in 94, so it's not the most important album released this decade, but it's existence in this decade makes it the best anyways.

...in the pop-punk scene. too bad the pop-punk scene is probably one of the biggest gimmick heaps of the past 10 years, i'd say IARB had very little competition.
Uh, there's so much pop punk that's better than IARB released in the last ten-ish years.
Teenage Bottlerocket, the Exploding Hearts, the Lillingtons, the Riverdales, the Methadones, that Descendents album that came out this decade, the Queers, Off With Their Heads, etc. have all released really rad Pop Punk this decade that is far better than anything Bemis has ever made.
note: not to say that pop-punk is inherently bad or has no potential. just... most of it is.
If I only listened to Powerpop jocked by AP staffers, I suppose I'd think the same thing.
Also, most Punk has inherent pop-elements to it. "Most of it" negates the fantastic barrage of Pop Punk that inundated listeners in the first wave of Punk in the '70s and some of the fucking rad bands that came from them in the '80s.

So the title of "Album of the Decade that is from the 90's or 80's" is still undecided. I'd like to suggest another candidate:

Oh, you stole my Hall & Oates love (which was sincere when posted in the "Best song/album whatever" thread in response to Vinh's Dookie comments) and co-opted it for super hip ironic effect. Great.

easily one of the best albums of the decade.. if Clarity was produced one year later, it would have been in the top three of this decade with ease.

dude, we get it. you listen to sufjan and read pitchfork. this site lives and breathes pop-punk, so if you dont like it or find it gimmicky, dont post on here? (besides that fact that despite the countless countless shitty bands that ruined the genre, there is still quality music that comes out of it.)

Seriously...as best I can gauge the opinions on this site (no one really can)...
If we go by users the obvious picks would be:
Brand New - TDAGARIM
Radiohead - Kid A
Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
Say Anything - ...IARB
TBS - TAYF
b182 - untitled
Vheissu
By staff:
either Deja or TDAGARIM....prob. TDAG
Say Anything - IDOTG
FOB - TTTYG
*maybe* American Idiot...idk
Vheissu
Personally, here's my shortlist:
TDAGARIM
TAYF
the aforementioned Plans
AK3 - Good Mourning
MCS - Commit This to Memory
Deloused in the comatorium - mars volta
yankee hotel foxtrot - wilco
idk what else...
