wow this band thinks the world revolves around them.
they need to take note of how bands like blink handled the media when they became huge. Blink didnt complain all the time. FOB needs to stop acting like a victim its getting annoying.
i didn't see them acting as a victims, everyone would like to explain shit like this :-|

how do they act like a victim??? they were a no name band that was shoved into limelight faster than i could come on your mother teat... they are simply sharing their ways and philosophies with others in a hope to help people understand what they are goin through... they are actually very geniune people... i mean come on, how many people do you know are so true to themselves that they admit they are an asshole, or that they are selfish, etc. etc.???

This is an interview about them. This interview does revolve around them. They should be talking about themselves. You just want to hate Fall Out Boy. Don't worry. It's taste...you don't need a reason.

Good interview. They're just trying to explain things from their perspective.

it's kind of sad that the majority of this site holds up smaller bands and wishes they do well, and as soon as they get a taste of fame, be it on mtv or other prominent music sources, we attack them.
I've liked fall out boy since i had heard TTTYG, and I will be for a while, regardless of how many people on here despise MTV for "making them sellouts".

I like Fall Out Boy and all, but Patrick really did come off as a huge asshole in this. He admitted it, of course, but it was still like a PMSing bitch or something, I dunno. You can call yourself an asshole, but unless you like the negative attention that comes with it, most people try to stop being assholes... not parading around with the title.

I didn't see anything even remotely asshole in any of that. Specifics?
The encore thing? I agree with him! I saw cursive once and Tim refused to go off and come back to do an encore. So he just stayed up and played songs. People were actually disappointed. I'm sure Patrick's responding to that.
The go see us live line comes off to me like, for better or worse, FOB are who they are live. The band is vocally conscious of their sloppiness live, but that it's more about the vibe and just having a good time. I think if he's encouraging people to go see his band live it's in a much more humanizing way. They are niether gods nor monsters and he's trying to make that known.
And as far as the comment on moving on from Pete's illness, I think it does get tedious to connect a band with superficial things. Pete's illness, or his penis, or his label, or his beef with Flowers are the only things people want to write about Fall Out Boy. I'm sure they'd like for someone to ask them about music.

Okay. I obviously care enough about the issue to respond. Why? It bugs me when the bands I like are assholes. I'm not about supporting assholes. So that mentality is where this is coming from.
if this dude was just into making money there are far better and easier ways to do it.
this dude is not a mogul he is a dude.
I am also so sick to death of reading about the time this dude got sick.
The gratuitous use of "this dude" makes me want to say STFU. It's charactaristically an asshole move to address someone in your company as "this dude" all omniscient third-person style. He can't say "Pete" or just "he"? Basically, it makes Patrick sound like an arrogant chump. Anytime I want to be condescending toward someone, I don't address them directly, I just say "this kid" or "this dude," etc.
All this is side-stepping the issue of the "I know something you don't know" implication in the first "this dude" quote, though. "Far better and easier ways" to make money, as in all the "lucrative" (as per Pete's words in Jared's massive interview) deals that FOB has turned down? I'm not saying these lucrative offers never existed, but Patrick is kind of saying, "Yeah, we're a big fucking deal, and we could be WAY rich right now really easy if we did such-and-such." It serves two purposes: to pat himself on the back for being a bigger band AND to pat himself on the back for not "selling out."
I think the next record will give a clearer indication of who we are and where we are at. Better than a lot of the articles you read about this band.
The last sentence here is unnecessarily snide. He couldn't simply say the next record would be a more accurate representation of the band, no, he had to lambast the media. According to your defense of his replies (the encore thing, the "go and fucking see us live" line, and the "we were all there" stuff about Pete's suicide attempt), you see it as justifiable. I'm not saying it's NOT justifiable -- justified or not, he's still acting like an asshole. Those are all mean-spirited ways of saying things. They are "I know my shit, you know nothing" answers.
All the interviewer wanted was responses, not the displaced wrath of Patrick Stump. That being said, I appreciate your defense of his answers --- not many feel inclination to do something like that.

I still like them.. I don't really know them for that long (about 1.5 years) I didn't listen to them that much for a while, but I don't know.. everytime I do, I wonder why people think their music became worse.. I love almost every single one of their songs!

Because they say "Dude?" Pete calls Patrick "this Dude" in interviews all the time. I get the impression that that's simply their vernacular. Not a statement of superiority. Lots of people say "Dude." It's a rough equivelant of "Man," "Fellow," or "Guy."
Secondly, you're putting words in his mouth. He never said there are easier ways for FALL OUT BOY to make money by selling out and bla bla bla. He just as easily could have said there are easier ways for a human being to make money, get famous, and get girls. Take for example Ted Kazinski the Unabomber=famous. Or drug dealers=rich. Or skeezy dudes that put rufies in drinks="get chicks."
Again, I think this points to the simple fact that YOU simply don't want to like Fall Out Boy, which is fine. No one's asking you too. Taste isn't objective. But don't lie to yourself and other people about why that is.
Futhermore, niether of us were there. We don't know the tone of the interview. We don't have the benefit of voices and physical signs that would point to sarcasm. It is incredibly presumptuous for either of us to say what Patrick meant.
Not reading any judgements into it all, I think we can both agree that Patrick evinces a tone of dissappointment in the way his band is portrayed as the "Saviors of Rock," or in essence the very death nell of it. He says outright that he would like for people to see his band as a band and nothing more. Not a lifestyle, not a religion, not an effigy to burn and torture, just a simple little rock band.

We're not going to see eye to eye on any other points, so I'm just gunna let it die. But I am a Fall Out Boy fan, so it's not an issue of me not wanting to like them. I've been a fan since TTTYG came out. I've seen them live a couple times, and have screamed my guts out with them like a believer. I have Clan ink on my body.
I'd be the last person to tear them down, but I call bullshit when I see it.
