As always, once I have written a couple of verses and a chorus in the spur of the moment, I find it impossible to add anything when I come back to it. I do always note down any ideas I have but none seem to fit with this song and most have found their way into other equally short compositions! In a way, I think this could work, especially with the chorus repeated and a big finish - which works when played to the basic open chords in G that I sing it to :-d. Although it is not really implied, and purely so you can understand where I am coming from, the song is written from my perspective: watching almost through the eyes of someone I cared about as they leave something amazing, and only realise once it's too late.
I can see the horizon
Vessels off their courses
An army of lost causes
And only the heavy water
To carry us along
I can see the edge of the earth
I'm flooded with doubts
But there are drinks in our hands
And while my life is afloat
I'll hand it to you
[CHORUS]
It's one hell of a heaven
To sail away from
To see through the back of my eyes
But now the current has caught me
And with nothing before me
I'll sink into the starless sky
I can see the horizon
Vessels off their courses
An army of lost causes
And only the heavy water
To carry us along
I can see the edge of the earth
I'm flooded with doubts
But there are drinks in our hands
And while my life is afloat
I'll hand it to you
[CHORUS]
It's one hell of a heaven
To sail away from
To see through the back of my eyes
But now the current has caught me
And with nothing before me
I'll sink into the starless sky
