im pretty sure mine was Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams. Either that or No Man's Land by Billy Joel. i think it has a lot to do with what your parents listened to.

i went to pizza hut for the first time with my mom and brother and got a demo disc for playstation 1 of spyro the dragon and tony hawks pro skater (the first one) and i first heard superman on the tony hawk soundtrack, my life changed over pizza.

after this I got mx 2002 featuring ricky carmichael where i first heard makes no difference and fat lip by sum 41on that soundtrack, just more amazingness

less than jake - all my best friends are metalheads
mighty mighty bosstones - the impression that i get....both these ska hits were on the digimon movie soundtrack as well, id rediscover both bands a couple years later

and cant forget the only reason I bought NOW 4......all the small things,(blue da ba dee and who let the dogs out were good too but cant say i still listen to those songs, smash mouth was probably on it too)

1.) No Newsboys song I've ever heard reaches the level of anything on Jesus Freak. "Entertaining Angels" is the only thing to come close.

2.) I'm pumped that Michael Tait is the new vocalist for the Newsboys. He's amazing, certainly better than that Peter guy. Their new album will likely be one of my favorites of 2010.

3.) "Were"? Psh... dc Talk is STILL awesome. What are you talking about?

1.) Breakfast, Shine, Take Me To Your Leader, and Love Liberty Disco are all better
2.) Peter Furler was the last original member and the Newsboys now play some DC Talk songs. Sell outs or supergroup? you decide.

3.) Kevin Max was and is the most talented member of the trio and some of his new music isn't terrible (looking at you tobyMac)

1.) Fun songs, but not at all comparable. "I want to be in the light as You are in the light." > "They don't serve breakfast in hell."

2.) I'd go with supergroup. I hear that Peter Furler, Toby Mac, and Ben Moody will be helping to write their next album. With that songwriting force and Michael Tait's amazing voice, I expect a Christian pop masterpiece. Hopefully they don't let me down.

3.) Kevin's solo material is certainly the best, but Michael is also great vocally and has excellent stage presence and charisma. Too bad he's the weakest link creatively. Toby sounds like a joke on record, but he's still fun live. I'm looking forward to seeing him with Relient K next month. Too bad his solo material sounds like a bastardization of dc Talk. They just need to reunite already.

1.) agree to disagree

2.) It could be but I don't know, Newsboy's stuff has been so weak for so long it's hard to say. I kinda wish they would have broken up when Peter left because he's been the face of the band for such a long time. I still hope for the best though.

3.) I think the chances of them reuniting are pretty slim. I saw Kevin Max and Toby Mac on the same night at Ichthus a few years ago and neither of them were involved in the other's set at all. It would be great to see a reunion tour though.

No I haven't I keep telling myself to get his music but I never actually get around to it. IHe has an incredible voice though.

Keep in mind that the new Newsboys album isn't going to be just another Newsboys album. With the creative forces of that band, 2/3 of dc Talk, and Ben Moody (former guitarist of Evanescence, has worked with Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, and others), it's worth having high hopes for.

If you haven't gotten any of his music yet, get The Imposter first, and then check out the Crashing Gates EP. He's not as consistent as I'd like, but he's written some great songs.

I only enjoy like half the songs on Age of Reptiles. There are some fun jams on there, but it was definitely a big step down for them. I loved the story behind Anorexia Nervosa, but it just didn't work very well as an album. It was too much music at once, with too much of it sounding the same, and while I understand why the vocals were lower in the mix with insignificant lyrics, it just makes the albums blend together that much more. Their new album is probably their best since No Sir, but there are way too many parts that sound literally identical to older songs of theirs. "Shepherd, No Sheep" and "I Think I'm Going to See You" are fun.

Walk Like A Man by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Either that or Marlana or some shit. I sung Marlana for my second grade talent show.

I also used to listen to Nowhere Man on repeat for hours on end.

I initially read this as anger at your mother buying it for you, not the name of the song.

for a lot of people, like me, it was just whatever your parents played for you. my dad was and still is all about springsteen, and when i got older i started to really appreciate his stuff and now he's my favorite artist of all time by far. but when i was a kid my dad would play bryan adams and billy joel and the eagles and dire straits all the time. so thats my explanation for it.

i think its bullshit people who are saying like american idiot by green day or MCR songs, stuff like that, that's more recent. early green day isnt that unbelievable, because that came out in '94. but i get what youre saying

I first heard it when I was 12.

I guess early Green Day is more reasonable but I don't know what kind of parents would play that for their kids when they're 3 or 4 years old... Because Let's say you're 20 now. If your parents were in their 30s - or even in their mid-20s - when they had you, it would be highly unusual for them to be into bratty punk rock whose main listening demographic was angsty teenagers. You would think they would be listening to Springsteen, like your dad did, or the Beatles, like mine did.
But I guess there could be exceptions... but Green Day at 3 years old?
Doubt it.

yeah what youre saying is what i think for the most part. thats what makes the most sense. and i also see what youre saying about the american idiot cd, because although that wasnt really my first one, that was one of the first. first cd i bought was RHCP's californication because that was one of the first songs i learned to play on guitar. then i started exploring more on my own and in eigth grade and freshman year i was all about green day

Okay...when I was a kid (5-8 I guess) there were several, but three come to mind in particular:

1. Paul Young's cover of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart"...weird I know but I listened to it on my parents' tape over and over and over again...

2. Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road...still a favorite

3. The Wallflowers - One Headlight...rediscovered this recently after about 7 years or so...really great song

Yeah I listened to Raffi for instance...but I don't really remember any of the songs. The likes of U2, John Mellencamp, The Clash, Wilco, The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, however, I was raised on and I still enjoy very much.

Haha I probably only remember him because I was reminded of his existence year after year, since I have 3 younger sisters who listened to him too :-)
I think the first song I ever loved (that wasn't for kids) was Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel... not literally my first favorite song (that would be Raffi) but the first one I can say I still listen to today.

well no one did. i didnt really listen to music till i was 12 or 13 i'd say, and i didnt really become all about it until i was 14 or so. but when youre a kid, youre not completely shut off from it. its your parents' influences, mainly.
