Anyone else here in the same boat as me? I'll be graduating in the spring with a B.A honours history. What are you guys planning to do with your degree?
Me, I'm taking a year off next year. I'm only 22 and I went straight from high school to university, so I figured I earned a year off. Plus I can feel my work slipping this year (which isn't good, considering I'm writting my honours thesis this year!) So a good year off should help me out. After my year off I'll be applying to grad schools for my M.A in history.
You guys?
B.S. in Biology and Marine Science, chemistry minor. some sort of grad shool in future possibly medical related...

Same! Well, almost..I did sociology too. Graduated a couple weeks ago, working for my dad at the moment. But I'm taking a year off next year to travel/work around the States, starting in May. Going to do my h-diploma for secondary teaching when I get back.

Graduated this past May with a bachelors in education. I'm teaching math at the moment, and I'll probably do that for a couple years to figure out if it's really what I want to do, then go to grad school for either education or something else, depending on the results.
i got a BA in history and geography and it got me fuck all.

B.Animal and Veterinary Bioscience. im actually gettin married in like 3 weeks though. so im taking a year to work, but probably more in the human genetics field (more jobs) so im currently applying for embryologist jobs and research assistant jobs. However, ive also just defered B.Veterinary Science. Keeping my options open. If i dont like research ill study another 5 years to become a vet...if i live that long, my fiance' might kill me. :P

I have an associates in science, and next year I'll (hopefully) have my bachelor's in Nursing. I'm debating on going to grad school to nab an NP. If I pass the NCLEX and get my RN I might just stick to that.

can someone please explain the concept of grad school to me?
in australia we just go from highschool to university and graduate with our bachelors degrees. then if we want to do a masters or PhD we can go back and continue study at the same university, or another university. But they arnt specifically focused on graduates. Most of the time you are going to the same school as undergrads.

I know it's really early but I do think about what I'm going to do when I graduate. I've always wanted to do music and I thought it would be nice to work on that for two or three years, travel to places and find potential grad schools while I'm out. Its the only thing I could think of right now but it doesn't seem realistic unfortunately.

Grad school is the next level of education after your bachelor's. I think anywhere in the world being a university graduate with a bachelor's degree/bachelor's with honors would be a prerequisite to get into grad school.

Just adding to the above post, typically grad school in the US is just as you've described it. There are some schools who focus only on graduates (i.e. medical schools or whatever) but most are universities with undergrad programs as well. We just say "grad school" to differentiate from "college" or "university" I guess, so it's clearer. Like if you said you were applying to grad school instead of applying to college, people would know you're going for a master's or a PhD and not a bachelor's degree. What would you say in Australia in that situation?

Oh okay i see.
Well in Australia we tend not to differentiate in that situation. We would just say that we have applied, or re-applied to university. Generally if we care to make that distinction we might mention 'im going on to do my masters/PhD'. i think the application process, at least with regards to PhD's here may be a little different also, in that you require a supervisor and an adequate project to take you on before you can 'apply'. Realistically it just goes to a board who decides whether youve got relevant qualifications and attitude to make a real go of a PhD. Also, if you fail to get and APA (scholarship) then your PhD is dunzo.

BA in Literature. Getting certified to teach high school English. Hopefully student teaching in the fall. Probably going to get certified to teach Elementary school seeing as they would kill small children to hire males in that field. There is a possibility of grad school somewhere in the future. Probably for administration.

BS/BA in cognitive & brain science / philosophy. Working a lowly job in Boston for a few years so this band has a chance to take off, and if that fails heading back to school to get an MFA in screenwriting. Can't wait to get out of Tufts but probably more scared than I should be. I really just want to live on my own - be free of my parents, start my life. I'd move to a different city if not for the band, but in the meantime I'll make do with the cards I'm given.

Thanks...it was kind of a strange choice. I was always the artist type, but when I got to college it all submerged while I took a big scientific detour. I'm kind of over it now, though. It's nice to be on the other side.
I graduated June '09 with a BS in Biology. I got accepted into Mt. St. Mary's College nursing program, but deferred my admission to try and pursue pharmacy school. Unfortunately pharmacy schools require pharmacy experience as a clerk or a tech. I even got my pharm tech license, but I haven't been able to find a job yet. Plus I'm not a trained pharm tech (studied a book and passed the certification test), so no place will hire me. Dayum, it sucks.

So was I but I went to a very academic school, which held me back in anything artistic for a while, and up to now even. No wonder I'm so depressed most of the time. I'm glad I get nice long breaks though, I decided I'm going to use all that for music and writing and those things that I never had the chance to do in school. I'll never take any summer courses unless I failed something.

I hear that...oh the choices we make.

What's wrong with nursing that make you decide to switch? And also which one do you think is harder? Pharmacy or nursing?

yea its a total catch 22. need experience to apply, but cant get experience unless someone hires you.

I didn't think anything was wrong with nursing; I just had always wanted to do pharmacy because I was into chemistry and talking to people, so it made the most sense.
In terms of which one is harder: Aye. I think if you want to get into healthcare, both are hard in their own way. Pharmacy is less "hands-on" in terms of patient care (no joke; even pharmacists know - it's a job where you stand all day). Nursing is intense; screw what you've seen on Grey's Anatomy. Nurses are doing the most work - super labor intensive.
In terms of schooling - I'd say nursing is more practical schooling and pharmacy is more 'book'-schooling. If that makes sense.
