Words into music

So I have songs written, but no melodies or music at all to match them. I heard an effective way to find a rhythm for developing a melody for a song is a keyboard, so I went out and bought a keyboard, but still with no avail... If anyone has any effective methods they use in making music please feel free to impart your light on me. I heard some people hum to make melodies, which ive tried but cant seem to find any.

Ya I tried, and unfortunately my college doesn't give any music theory classes. Only thing it gives in music is history of certain genres... quite lame.

Horrible Community College. Plan on going to NAU soon though.
