You're not doing shit. Because just bitching about conservatives rather than bitching about gays. All we do in this country is bitch, bitch, and bitch. And then we stage some big protest in the middle of the streets and think that will solve something. We think for that moment in time we are proud and people truly believe in something. But truthfully no one cares.

Generally liberal states are helping this when Ohio and Michigan voted to ban gay marriages in their respective states.

Now, I do agree that Church and State should be seperated and frankly I do not give a fuck, but for one to be just convervative or just liberal, you are a pathetic waste of space. We are not born into this world just to fall under on label. If you noticed, many of the states up for election our liberal states anyway...jersey for one.

If you dont realize this as a move to gain convervative support for Bush, you are absolutely fucking blind. It is so blatantly obvious. Its ok to be in denial guys. Really. You know, with all of the things going on in this country, we have our President spending time backing discriminatory laws to gain support. Man, what a great leader of our country we have! Its truly pathetic that they do this crap, and all of the conservative people will all of a sudden rally behind Bush because they think he really cares that much about it. Everybody, including Bush, knows they will never get the 2/3 vote to have a nationwide ban. They know it, so its obviously just propaganda to gain support. If you dont see that, you arent paying attention.

I know this is the wrong way to look at it, but it is a democracy and majority does rule...it sucks by the system was set up this way. Most of the country is conservative.

You people act like liberals don't do it either. Does everyone forget when Clinton stood by American workers and said no to free trade? Well it put it fucking in. He stabbed every American in the back.

True, but like when penicilin (sp?) first came around and now stem cell research...it is the fear of the unknown. I could marry a roomate, not be gay, and we could be greedy and take the tax advantages. It is another loophole for the criminals in our country.

I mean that is the whole point of them wanting to get married? Isn't it? They want the advantages that other couples receive. Some will sit there and tell you we want it as a symbol of our love, and I respect that, but it more and more for the advantages that lie behind it.

However, we cannot ban it. We cannot intervene Church and State. We can no longer live on tradition, but until the people of our country truly take responsibility for their actions, you will never see peace, or full exisiting rights for everyone, in our country or the world. It can be changed, but for now...it is what it is and I am sorry that it has to be this way.

Call me close minded or whatever, I don't care. I truly do not have a problem with homosexuals. I have a problem with the people country that just sit there and talk the talk or just talk someone else's talk. The people that bitch and moan about the government all day and every day. The people that talk about them being close-minded. The people that bitch when people do not think like they do, but it is the other people who are close-minded. We are all fucking close-minded human beings.

That does not make sense. It would make sense if you applied the same logic to heterosexual marriages. If you're going to look at it that way because you're truly concerned about "criminals," then why not ban marriage altogether, for everyone?

It's not for Bush support. If anything it's for a small % of republicans probably up for reelection in states in which support for a marriage amendment is somewhat high and they're looking to put a big issue up and get support.

Nothing wrong with the concept of that (now if you're against the amendment for moral reasons that's up to you), but it seems naturally to me for senators to pander to their base.

cal1082
06/06/06, 06:11 PM
And you might not like the idea of a constitutional amendment on gay marriage (i dont either) but I also reject judges deciding laws. So I can see why a constitutional amendment could be useful to stopping this. In the end put it in the hands of the states and let them decide.

Exactly! I dont understand how people can say that gay marriage will ruin our society. What the hell does that mean?!? How can gay people being married ruin anything? Bush said it will change young kid's ideas of what a family is. Tell me, how can two men being married, who adopt 3 children, not be as good of a family as a family with heterosexual parents? Just because of a sexual preference?? Are you kidding me? It just doesnt make any sense. Two women who want to get married should be able to have exactly the same benefits as a man and a woman being married. Why not? Because its uncomfortable to you? Just because you dont understand something and dont agree with it doesnt mean you should invent things that will happen if somebody does it. Tell me this, wouldnt it be a good thing if there were lots of gay parents out there who adopt lots of children? It will give lots of foster children homes. Oh wait, I forgot. Gay people cant be good parents.... Give me a break.

I doubt that. The democrats have no message. A lot of people don't trust them for that reason alone. Sure, a lot of people hate what the republicans have done on both sides of the spectrum, but people have no idea what a democratic congress would do. I think the democrats might pick up some seats, but not enough to have a majority, and even the races they pick up seats in will be close.

Losing one house is very likely, but just a hand full of lost seats this year will have a major impact in two years when twice as many people are voting and partisan politics will be more pronounced.

The reason i say Republicans are fucked is not because people are going to switch support, but because the party is at odds with its base. The base is conservative and traditional, and being ignored. If they pull their votes and boycott the election to prove a point many Republicans are in trouble of losing their seat.

Its true that Democrats have no plan and are controled by extremist, but they have the support of their small base, which puts them in position to weather storms better then the Republican party.

FScott

One form of bigotry doesn't push religious values on the entire populous. And just because somebody believes in a thing called the SEPARATION OF CHURCH STATE doesn't make them an atheist.

Even Jon Stewart can admit that these tax cuts better benefit the rich. In theory they are supposed to stimulate economic growth, basically they hope that these big CEO's invest this extra money they save in bonds or stocks but it has very little effect. What these tax cuts do help though is widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

In other words, Bush isn't going to bite the hand that feeds. Of course if I ran a campaign on big business money I would feel obligated to save them some money if I were to win.

It's called it was a straight tax cut. Everyone got back a percentage of what they put in. Do you think there would be crimes of discrimination by the rich if the poor got a 40% cut and the rich only 10%?

Its called I have a degree in Finance.

And yes the myth is that the rich will invest the extra money they have whether it be into the banks or companies and so forth...It is the trickle down theory and it is theory the Republican party seems to follow. There is also myths that the poor would see it as extra money rather than money to pay off their debts and so forth.
