So I just picked up songwriting and im learning keyboard, and i went to m ycollege this morning to sign up for spring classes and the only music class they offer is Music 101... The counselor didn't really know anything about it so im wondering if anyone else has taken this class, and if it is worth taking.
Most basic music classes are either Music Appreciation/Analysis or Music Theory. I'd suggest emailing the professor and asking for an overview of the course if you can't find a summary of the course on the school's website.

I'm taking it right now. It's a music history class. You learn about classical music and listen to samples. Mine is a 3 hr 15 min and is currently the reason my gpa is fucked. My teacher just mumbles for the entire class and expects you to know wtf he's talking about. It definitely could be different for other schools, but I wouldn't recommend taking it.

more often than not, course descriptions are very intriguing and make the class sound interesting and unique, as a school wants you to enroll in more classes, even an extra class so they get more money for it..alas, Music 101 is probably a music history/music theory class, but it ALWAYS depends on the professor. The best professor is the one who makes your least favorite class your most interesting one. You should probably see if the professor who is teaching the class has any feedback on RateMyProfessor.com I always used to use that site before i signed up for any classes in college.
