So I'm looking for some folk music to add to my collection, since I don't have much.
I'd like folk music that I can relax to or lightly bob my head to, nothing really upbeat.
On my list already is:
Sufjan Stevens
Kevin Devine
Right Away, Great Captain!
Pedro The Lion
Damien Jurado
Can't think of anymore, wanna help me out?

matt nathanson likes to lump himself in with folk, but i think his studio albums are a little too aggressive for that. you might like his At The Point live album. emerson hart's another really good one.

Some great stuff already mentioned. Here's a few I consider "chill" though I'm not sure how well a few of them fit into the folk category.
Tim Buckley - Tim Buckley
John Martyn - Solid Air
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts Of The Great Highway
The Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Grave
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I See A Darkness
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator)
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Townes Van Zandt - Townes Van Zandt
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
Neil Young - Comes A Time
And I guess Iron & Wine is sort of obvious.

Also throwing out the rec for Fleet Foxes. Folk indie music, some of their stuff is quite impressive.

I find Dead Like Harry to be a relaxing listen but they might not be what you are after.

What are you doing, Rick? I'm pretty sure the Microphones fit the description of the music he's looking for.
