So i'm writing an easy for a history course about the similarities/differences between constitutionalism and absolutism, and if you were a merchant which society would you be better off in. I didn't have a problem with the first part of the section, but i've kind of hit a wall with the second part. Could anybody help a brother out?

Well, considering constitutions in recent memory were written by those of the elite classes in their society, I'd say a merchant would do fairly well under both systems, as the states set up by these constitutions usually sought to defend amassed wealth and to subjugate the poor with it.

Wow. I'm having a debate on constitutional monarchies versus absolutism Thursday. Very weird. From what I gather (and it's not very much, but), a merchant would be better off in a constitutional monarchy because his opinions would be potentially heard by Parliament or the King. I know, duh, but it's something.
