There hasn't been any official threads on this great band.

Please, go find the STAY HOME EP if you can and also their previous full length, "THIS WILL NOT DEFINE US" for the great song, For The World, especially.

Here are some samples:

RFC has its problems, but don't let the label hold you back from supporting the band. people that bitch and bitch about having issues with run for cover have legit cases to be made, some of them bitch just to bitch, and most others just don't get in touch with guy/can't accept problems arise in getting records pressed.

You don't think Polar Bear Club has a bit of Hot Water Music/Small Brown Bike in them? ;-) Those are two of the bands who come to mind for immediate comparison. But I definitely get what you're saying.

It's awesome that these guys seem to be getting a bit more recognition. They played a show here in MA a few months back, opening for the Wonder Years. A few other local bands were on the bill--who shall remain nameless--and I was duly impressed because, while kids were "moshing" and "fucking shit up" to the other bands? The same amount of kids seemed to be into Transit...

...But they weren't just running around hitting each other. They had fists in the air, singing along. It was fuckin' rad! I just hope they stay together. They're so young, with so much potential!

You don't think Polar Bear Club has a bit of Hot Water Music/Small Brown Bike in them? ;-)

 of course, but I'm gonna name the source first. Hot Water Music came first, not PBC. ;-) Just like when PBC came out everyone compared them to HWM. I've been listening to music in the hardcore punk scene for as long as I can remember ('99), I'm not by any means an "oldhead", but I know music enough, haha.

Those are two of the bands who come to mind for immediate comparison. But I definitely get what you're saying. Yeah, I'm still gonna go with heavy hardcore added, because there's a darker and grittier sound in their amps and guitars in the low notes at the beginning of Footwork than I hear in PBC's songs.

It's awesome that these guys seem to be getting a bit more recognition. Yeah, I'm glad to finally be a fan. I'd see them posted in around the site a lot, but never bothered to listen to but a song or two--and I wasn't really phased at the time. Footwork finally made me come around.

If the singer's voice was the reason you couldn't get into them, you might not be overly impressed still. His voice has improved, of course, over the years, but it's the same for all intents and purposes. Just stronger. He still sings like he wants to be in a No Use For A Name cover band. Hah! Their latest is Ups And Downsizing which came out at some point last year. Forget the exact date but...As far as their live set goes, they're super tight. They don't jump around the stage like mad men or anything like that, but they put on a decent show. They hit the right notes at the right time and seem to legitimately give a shit about what they're playing. They have energy but aren't running all over the place. That sounded better in my head. Haha.

Worth checking out if you're going to the show anyway, but if you don't like them to begin with? Probably won't win you over.

The Swellers I've heard, of course. But we're actually talking about two different things. I was referring to your question about MD&M, haha. That's why I put it on two separate lines adressing two separate q's. Probably shoulda made that clear.

Ah. Makes more sense now! Let's throw out that NUFAN comment then, eh? That was in reference to the Swellers.

As far as Make Do & Mend goes, though, I can agree to some extent. When he sings the clean vocals, he definitely sounds bored. But when the singing gets throaty? That's where he shines, in my opinion. They're in the studio right now, though, so we'll see what happens. :-d

Because it's cheaper on bandcamp and this way the band gets more money than they would if they sold it on itunes and they get it right away. I think it's going to be up there eventually though.

...Have you read the lyrics? I feel like people get caught up in the fact that the music is fun/bouncy/whatever and just disregard the words behind it. I mean, read the lyrics to like, 75% of Less Than Jake's catalog and it's depressing as fuck.

I can see how if you took the music at face value it might sound happy and fun, but uh...The lyrics (admittedly, with the Wonder Years you have to focus just on The Upsides) are completely emotional.

Not to say that Transit isn't, but I think the Wonder Years hit home for a lot of people with that record, as far as the lyrics go. Which can help a band go from being "really great" to "favorite of all-time." At least, in my opinion.

EDIT: But if you base it all completely on music? I would agree with you, haha.

Take a look at the words surrounding the ones you highlighted. Just because there's a pop-culture references doesn't mean it's not a serious song. It just means they write from a literal standpoint.

But this is coming from a guy who thinks Taking Back Sunday has god awful, melodramatic lyrics that I was never able to relate to because it seemed too forced. Sometimes a point can be made when things are put literally, just as well as if they're bathed in seventeen layers of ironic metaphor and references to knives and blood. Because y'know, that's the only way to convey emotion through song...

It's all about what you relate to. And coming from a dude who doesn't like where he lives a lot of the time, feels like he doesn't fit in, and loves burritos? I get it. Haha.

Re-read what I wrote until you understand it. Haha. Basically, you pointed out the fact that they have references to things like burritos, soy milk, etc. in their songs and wrote them off as silly because of it. It's literal, not based on metaphor or hyperbole.

If you take a look at the line: "I've been drowning my sorrows in Lucky Charms and soy milk." I mean, the word "sorrow" is in there. I'm not saying it's going to reduce you to tears. Or that it's brilliant lyricism -- but to say it's not emotionally-based is kind of silly.

TWY's lyrics are more "heart on your sleeve" I guess you could say, while Transit seems to put more thought into making them more "poetic". There's emotion in each, it just depends on what you personally draw emotion from.

I feel like they'll have the best luck with Senses Fail out of those three. Less Than Jake always has interesting openers but more often than not it doesn't go over so well. I remember seeing the Loved Ones and Set Your Goals opening for them--and while it was a cool tour for me? 75% of the audience didn't care about either of them, me and five others got into the Loved Ones, and most of the kids there for SYG left immediately after they played.

Because y'know, Less Than Jake are like totally not hardcore, bro. And hardcore is what college kids listen to. Ska is like totally high school, man. I listen to mature music with mature lyrics and mature breakdowns. None of the silliness. I mean, come on "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" is just a happy, summer song. I need heart in my music! And complex, lyrical metaphors for me to take it seriously.

You'd be surprised. I've been doing a lot of thinking about people who talk about how they "grew out" of punk rock. I just know that I tend to bump into people who refer to bands like Less Than Jake by saying, "I used to listen to them back in high school..." and now they listen to like, metal or the Arcade Fire. Haha.

But the point is pretty much the same. It's also worth noting that I was in junior high when ska was big ('97) so my perception is a bit skewed, haha.

I was hanging out in their van last night and Joe Lacy said that the new stuff they're recording has a Brand New "Devil and God"-ish feel to it, so get stoked.

Something Left Behind is beyond anything they've ever done... Very emotional. If I remember correctly Joe and I had a super brief conversation about how he is slightly prouder of this than he is of KTTY. I can see it

Agreed. I hope they continue on the route of "Indoor Living." Such a phenomenal song.

Can't get into these guys for the life of me for some reason :-(

couldn't get into them since the 08 ep till 09's Stay Home, when Keep This To Yourself came out then I got hooked, then with this new acoustic ep it really justified why I should like this band

No

Because I didn't preorder it

Nope. Really, really tired of that label. Im usually not one to put the blame for getting stuff late on the label, but it literally seems to happen every time with MTS

ThisIsNotDan
03/13/11, 04:50 PM
I've heard the same about RFC but literally every order from them has gone smoothly. I don't bitch about how long an order takes to get either, but I feel like a pre-order should at least arrive the day of, not 3+ weeks after the release date

Slowly realizing Transit is one of my favorite bands ever. And I thought I was just witnessing a young local band that just happened to put on a good show when I saw them open for Your Best Friend two years ago. Never thought they would make it this far.
