Cartel (http://www.cartelrocks.com) would like very much to play at your college. If you book bands for your school and would like Cartel to pay a visit to your campus in September, please email RO@wma.com - serious inquiries only.

see, Cartel could be huge at my school, but we only have an enrollment of 2,000, so I doubt they'd even come.

The problem is logistics. Cartel will want too much money for the radio station to book them but they aren't big enough to play at our arena. Pretty much all the bands I listen to fall in this area. The "biggest" band we (I work for the radio station) booked last year was Bullets to Broadway and Valencia (who had to cancel).*
Now, if Cartel is willing to play for cheap, then man, I'd be all for it. Its not even that long of a drive for them to come Clemson from Atlanta. It would be amazing if they came here right before they got huge.

Wish I had a say to come to SUNY Brockport. Saw SoCo a couple years back and Dashboard last year. As you can see, they pick pretty well. :)

Better than St. Bonaventure, we always come up there for shows. lol We had Howie Day and Ben Folds this year. Both put on good shows but the majority of the student body doesn't care.
We have the same problem though, our radio station is phenomenal, heck we play Cartel, but we don't have the budget to bring them I am sure and our Student Activities director could really give a crap.

I wish I could somehow get on this commitee at my school because they get some not so good acts to come. I mean we just had Less Than Jake for free (which was cool) but then we got Twista. I tried to get them to book The Starting Line awhile back but they didnt go for that. If Cartel sees this, please come to U of South Florida in Tampa, we love you down here!

yeah, Weezer and Jack Johnson seem like fairly large names to me...
I mean, all we had was Jason Mraz (before A-Z), and Ben Folds Five (which took out entire budget for the year)

Mmm, Cartel at UCSB. Truckstops & Statelines (The Academy Is, Accecptance, Panic, and Hellogoodbye) rolled through my campus in the Winter... and it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. The crowd was amazing in the "we're-18-and-over" way. We also randomly had Daphne Loves Derby in the Winter, Halifax a month or so ago, and Sherwood a couple weeks ago. It's hard for me to grasp the collision of school and shows. It's really strange.

according to concert ideas, they're asking for 7-10k.

is that really that much 7-10k? I guess they arent very well known, but STILL that doesnt seem like that much money for a university to put into a show...but i dont know what the average or norm is so i guess i cant compare

It really depends on the university. For an act like Cartel at a univ where people don't know them, that's a lot. For a univ where everyone likes cartel, that's a great price to sell out a concert that only cost them 7-10k. I run into this problem a lot, since I am president of my college's concert committee. I go to school in Mississippi, and well, we all knows that this type of music is not that big down there. So I have learned to measure bands not by what I think of them and their price, but how the campus views them and how the band's asking price fits that. So unfortunately for us, we normally have to go for top-40 type acts, or long-time staples in the music business in order to have a thriving budget. Another example... I was contacted today by The Blood Brother's agent, wanting to see if I could book them this fall. Sadly, I probably won't even bother replying because that would be shot down, crashing and burning, long before they could even drive to our school.
