I only own Music for Nitrous Oxide, which I picked up from the music shop on a whim (it was a dollar) a year or so ago. It's good. I should get around to checking out more of their work.

Hmm, thought there was already a thread. Tired Sounds is brilliant.

How did I miss this thread? Love SOTL. I'm pretty sure they have something lined up for 2010.
Tired Sounds of... is one of the most compelling albums I've heard as of late. Incredible duo.

And Their Refinement of the Decline is my paper-writing music. Love these guys.

Fantastic band.
And Their Refinement was definitely one of my best discoveries this year. December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface.
Pretty good. I prefer Eno if we're talking ambient, but not everyone can be Eno.

I think I prefer SOTL to Eno's ambient.

do you generally like drone/ambient?
no, not really. he told me to check it out, and i said that i probably wouldn't like it, and i didn't. just not my style.
gonna drone myself to sleep tonight
O))) really?

don't like them very much
don't like them very much
Oh neither do I. I just thought I'd replace 'Oh' with O))) cause you said drone.
Cuddleworthy
01/08/10, 06:51 PM
that band should not be synonymous with drone
I think so. Not because they're inherently good, but just so you can say DRO)))NE. That being said I'd take Their Refinement of the Decline over any of Sunn O)))'s work on any day of the week.

Best part of The Lovely Bones was Brian Eno.

Their latest is phenomenal.

Yeah I heard about that! I'm excited to see The Lovely Bones now. My friend, arguably a bigger Eno fan than I am, said he was geeking out pretty hard while he watched it.

Just before you go see that movie, consider all of these things:
I'll try to be vague, but unless you've read the book, some things will be spoiled.
1. While the acting is phenomenal, Suzy's heaven seems to be a DayGlo world that mistakes a great plot for manifold of cheesy special effects.
2. Some fo the characters seem cliche; the only ones who don't are Susie and her killer.
3. Peter Jackson destroyed a lot of the movie's potential. SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! The way that Susie seems to be happier now that she's dead seems a bit contrived. Sure, she helped solve who her murderer was, but since most of us knew who that was before, cut the cliches and allow some originality to come through, m'kay?
4. The love sequence at the end was totally retarded. I'm sorry. ANOTHER SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! Since there is a bit of justice in this movie where the kilelr dies, etc. I think that if we had seen her body be put in that sinkhole and she was left without all of these superficial (I know she's a teenager, but come on, she bitches about how creativity is a crime in her household) ties to earth.
5. The meeting of people in Heaven was poorly executed. It seemed as though they all had been facebook friends meeting for the first time. The lack of dialog seemed to drag down this scene as well.

ATROTD is flawless. I recently was on major pain killers shortly after surgery, and I took a nap while listening to this album. It felt like I was inside the music.
