I read the first 10 or so pages on Barnes and Noble and it's fantastic (heavy on the Celtics which may be why I enjoyed it so much). Did anyone pick this up?

Basketball is the one thing simmons really knows, I've got through 150 pages or so so far and its good. I care about basketball significantly less than football and baseball but there's still enough interesting stuff in there to keep me entertained for 700 pages.

seems like everyone who hates bill simmons is a fan of the rivals teams he roots for, should get past that and read some his other articles not pertaining to Boston Sports, great writer and hysterical

I don't mind that Simmons is a homer. I think he's arrogant and tries too hard. I like his podcast well enough and he's funny on TV, but his writing has gotten so forced. He hates Rick Reilly yet he's turning into him - forcing puns and pop culture references whenever possible.

See entire week of Almost Famous references for examples...

His arrogance has gotten much more pronounced though...he'll say something like "Almost Famous is the greatest music movie of all time" and then never drop in the, I'm sure, 1000's of emails point out to him that there are way better music movies. His mailbag never really shows that he's ever wrong

This is 100% false.

While I sometimes agree, I find myself occasionally enjoying his writing. And the reason why I don't have a problem with the fact that he is a homer is because he is the complete opposite of your typical die hard fan - he is the most pessimistic fan in the history of the world.

I mean, would you go out of your way to prove yourself wrong?

And he also thinks The Wire is the greatest show of all-time, so obviously he's a good guy...

I picked up the book last week at his book signing in San Diego. Waited in line for an hour for him to write "To Afshawn. Bill Simmons" on the inside but we talked about the Chargers for about 45 seconds, so that was cool.

I've been slowly making my way through the book. I'm planning on really tackling it during winter break, though, when I have more time.

Well. I'm a hardcore anti-Brady/Patriots fan...but I love Bill Simmons. Even when he bashes on teams/players I like.

This. He seems far too full of himself/very impressed with himself. I read his articles sometimes and some of them are pretty funny but for the most part I just get annoyed. It's not even b/c I hate the teams he roots for, I just don't like him.
