View Full Version : who's better musically?
IceAge/HeatWave

radiohead or circa survive.
i think it is clearly radiohead, but a friend of mine said circa makes more complicated songs that "make a bigger immediate impact than radiohead". who do you think makes better music?
i do not want people to misconstrue this an a "which band do you like more". in the blink v. radiohead poll, people were saying "well, i know radiohead is better, but i LOOVE blink." which band do you think is objectively better?

hahaha your friend...
if by "immediate impact" he means that they're generally more pop sensible... then maybe. but circa survive doesnt even exist outside of the pop-punk scene right now. they dont make a bigger impact in any sense of the word. they are also nowhere near as innovative. however, its okay to prefer them.

i hope you don't take this is an alias for my true feelings haha all of my polls come from discussions and debates with friends. radiohead is my all time favorite band, with kid a as my all time favorite album.
if that is not the context in which that was typed, disregard my quote.

I have the same view on a someone on the first page, I don't like Radiohead except for creep and that gets irritating after a while. I'm not calling Radiohead bad since apparently they must be doing something right, everyone fricken loves them. To answer the main point of this poll, I'll agree Radiohead, just because they're much much bigger than Circa, but as far as preference goes, Cicra wins for me.

I simply don't understand how you can jump to the conclusion that "Radiohead blows". It's obvious to me that you haven't given them a proper chance, especially if you think that Creep is their best song.

I know. You're right. I haven't.
EDIT: But what's wrong with settling with the mentality that anything I haven't heard "blows"?
EDIT TWO: That must mean anything I have heard sucks. Wtf.

if you think circa is the better band, musically, creatively, technically, and in terms of influence, then thats fine.
but if not, you entirely missed the point.

I haven't given most of Radiohead's stuff a proper listen, but In Rainbows just didn't have a terrible amount of lasting value to me, it just felt like some of the songs were repeating what I'd heard earlier on the disc. Maybe it's just that record, but I had a difficult time discerning song from song, unless a giant shift happened, and aside from great use of dynamics, I didn't hear anything that really popped out as super creative and musically innovative on that record. Maybe someone can point me the direction of why everyone has a huge boner for Radiohead- not criticizing at all, because clearly there's a great amount of talent in those guys. I just don't understand why everyone feels that they're so vastly superior to everything else.

in my original post in the thread, the OP, says it isn't about if you like them better. it's about who do you think is the better band, in terms of talent, creativity, influence and production.
example. i hate rush. i love foo fighters. but do i think foo fighters are better by any of those merits? no. not even close.

circa is pretty musically sweet and has accomplished alot in my opinion, but radiohead reigns king. I guess some can see them as a heavier version of radiohead in some circumstances, but I always saw it as Circa modeling themselves around Thom Yorke and his pals

This is a pointless question. I absolutely love Circa, and I'd like to think I'm not a music snob. But the band that wrote Kid A simply cannot be compared to them. Let's see what they do next and take it from there. But I have a feeling they'll remain a treasured band of this scene and not much more.
