So last night I attended the Cheap Date Tour in Allentown, PA. It started off great with Down With Webster, My Favorite Highway, Sing It Loud, and then The Rocket Summer put on a great show. Finally it was time for the other headliner Forever The Sickest Kids to take the stage.

Before I go any farther, I must admit that FTSK are a guilty pleasure of mine. I heard of people talking about them being in it "for the money" but I just blew it off thinking, "Well, a lot of other bands are too."

ANYWAY. After an incredibly lame gimmick to get to the stage (Getting called to the "Principal's Office"), they open up with some song I forget but I took notice that lead singer Jonathan Cook wasn't singing at all (This was being done by bassist Austin Bello.) Instead he was dancing around the stage like a home-schooler going to his first real dance. As the second song begins, lead singer of Sing It Loud Pat Brown walks on stage and proceeds to sing. It turns out that JCook has strep throat and instead of cancel the show and just come back at a later date, I had to witness a FTSK cover band with some jackass jumping around on stage. Oh, and before it was announced that JCook had strep throat, he took sips out of a few water bottles and handed them into the crowd. I wish I was joking.

And don't get me wrong, I love Pat Brown and his band, but this wasn't what I paid for. I guess FTSK's name suits them well.

Anyway, the point of this whole post is this: I now firmly believe that FTSK are solely in this business for the money and underaged girls who eat up and shit they produce. If you plan on going to this tour, it isn't worth it to stay until the end. Just act like The Rocket Summer are the headliners like they deserve to be.

Only part I'd take issue with is the sharing of water after it was made fact he had strep. Otherwise, bands have people fill in for their singers rather than canceling shows all the time.

Pat Brown and both Caleb and Austin from FTSK are better singers than JCook anyway. you got lucky.

because they played their set without their lead singer? That's terrible logic, especially considering what Montauk says:

Only part I'd take issue with is the sharing of water after it was made fact he had strep. Otherwise, bands have people fill in for their singers rather than canceling shows all the time.

Its your fault for sticking around for their set. I walked by them at Warped Tour, stopped for a song, and nearly killed myself it was so awful. Old news

I used to love them about a year and a half ago. I saw them at Warped 08 when they performed on the Ernie Ball Stage. They were well known, but not huge. They had a medium sized crowd. They were awesome. Great to the crowd and everything. Saw them again this year at Warped. Wasn't even sure if it was the same band. The crowd was huge, and they were just acting like a bunch of ridiculous hooligans. Jonathan Cook was the least of the problems too. The one guitarist with the dark hair just kept randomly screaming into his mic. Never uttered a single word, just "aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh." It was pathetic to say the least. Their playing was terrible too.

i love how you call FTSK a guilty pleasure to up your credibility, yet you have Cobra Starship as your avatar, you're a fan of The Maine & Owl City, and have no respect for Armor for Sleep or Blink...
if anything YOU are the scumbag and FTSK didn't want to cancel their show, so they did what they could to still put on a show for their fans, i see nothing wrong with that. (btw, no one goes to FTSK to see them actually sing well or play music, they go to see their new clothes and hair)

Kurt Retenauer

The most exciting part of FTSK's set when I saw them was the diamond studded microphone stand. Incredibly cheesy, but it looked nice when the lights reflected off of it. But they only left that on stage for one song. The rest of their set sucked.

From what I've heard though, they are a FUN live band, and they get the crowd dancing, at least. When I go to a gig that's what I want, I don't worry about how well the band SOUND live, generally, as long as I have fun. Which I think I will.

And who ever said gulity pleasures are pointless and you should take pride in what you listen to, I totally agree and was just going to say that! My taste in music would be considered a joke by most people on this site, but it's what I like to listen to. And I don't feel guility about it, at all.

i believe, FTSK have gone too big. it bugs me when bands do that, like back in 2005/2006 (for example. i used to listen to them >.<) boys like girls, they wernt known at all, then all of a sudden i heard them on the raod and was "Oh shit..." next thing i knew hot topic had the shirts girls were going gaga over this band. it sickened me.... i hate when bands sell out.

but FTSK, i think never really had alot of talent, i mean ya thr 2 singles were ok but i didnt even like the rest of the record. >.<

and as for swinging a mic....it give singers something to do or they think its "hardcore"

Haha, oh my god, seriously? There's no such thing as "selling out" I'm sorry, but for full-time musicians, the band is their source of income. They need to make money. If you really like a band, you WANT them to be succesful.

Ugh, I hate the word "sell-out", maybe you should try being in a band full-time. Sure, they might be doing what they love, but half the time bands still have to sleep in their vans every night, barely eat, etc. By earning money to live better, they are not "selling-out". You are not only cooler because you listen to bands that don't get played on the radio, either.

Armor for Sleep made What to Do When You Are Dead which is miles ahead in talent than anything The Maine has done. and even if you don't like them, you can't disrespect them.
and saying that The Maine made anything "fucking great" is fucking ridiculous.

As long as a band is still passionate about what they do, I won't have a problem.
