Green Zone (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/greenzone/) (2010)
Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone, a film set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences. During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission. Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

Ok so here is the story. Back in 2003 I was in Iraq as part of a small team doing the search for chemical weapons. As you can imagine it was a pretty crazy time and we were all convinced that we would find stockpiles of WMD and get our picture taken and make the news blah blah blah. Obviously that didn't happen. During our search we discovered the intelligence was very bad (very bad intelligence) so we began conducting our own investigation...in a way. It was a very crazy time as you can imagine and my boss, Monty Gonzales, Chief Warrant Officer, was the man searching for the truth.
Anyway 4 years after I got back from Iraq and out of the Military I receive a call from a producer making a film based on those events. They asked me to be an advisor and basically play myself in the film. We filmed in 2008 and the movie is due out March 12. As you can imagine that was a crazy fun experience. Since this is my first Thread I don't know how to imbed video so I will just add some links to a CBS interview that has me in it and the movie trailer.
I would really be interested in peoples take on the subject matter and the film itself. I have been on Chiefs Planet for years and I find that there is a solid mix of good points and good humor.

basically every soldier is real besides Matt Damon. No script and it's about 30% close to the real truth, so if you are interested definitely check it out. It was suppose to provide some of the most realism to the War we have seen in a film.

Reason I love Paul Greenwood. Matt Damon certainly knows the right directors to work with and make relationships with.

Yep. It's based on the book "Imperial Life in the Emerald City."

actually it's based off the real life experiences from the real soldiers from that mission they used in the movie, more so than the book

Alright. Just going off of what's credited in the movie. Either way, I'm super jazzed, though the movie basically looks like "The Bourne Zone." Greengrass is just an excellent director when it comes to building tension.

Hated the Bourne series purely because of the shoddy camera work, if this is the same I won't be seeing it.

One reviewer described this as one of the greatest war films made :-0 I am bloody intrigued.

Just got out. Ebert was right, it's pretty fucking thrilling. Got a bit cheesey at the very end but I dug the flick. It's Modern Warfare 2 in the flesh is what it is. I'll talk more as people see it.

I was pretty bummed when Freddie shot homeboy. I wanted Kinear to go down HARD. He did get his comeuppance (or so it's assumed), but I would have liked to have seen that played out a bit.

Ya, he loved it. I usually align with what he likes but sometimes disagree with what he doesn't.

Yet framing issues are secondary to his maddening disregard for coherence in his frenetic skirmishes, shot in blurry handheld, often in darkness, and chopped to pieces in the editing room so that characters' geographic relationship to one another, and the progression of incidents within a given scene, are wholly indiscernible.
Sounds awful.

I can't really comment on the movie because I haven't seen it. But Slant more or less hates Greengrass, so I give this no credence. That and I usually think Slant is off on many of their reviews.

I like the style Greengrass brings to the movies he directs. Gives it a real, raw feeling. People always complain about his style as if he just means to do it as if he wants his movie to "look cool", but for what the subject matter is about, it is very appropriate. Still have yet to watch Bloody Sunday for Tj's Film Fidelity Club, so I can't really comment on his earlier stuff. All I know is that with the Bourne movies and from the first 30 minutes of Green Zone, the cinematography works great for me.

It's like any other Paul Greengrass film. If you didn't like the style before, you won't like it now.
