Fallbrooke - Fallbrooke
Record Label: RMR Music Group
Release Date: February 17, 2009

If there's one thing that teenage girls love more than Hannah Montana and make-up, it's pop rock with its infectious melodies, slow-muted verses, and the drama-ridden teen angst oozing from every lyric. It's clear that the saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it", is the reason that new bands are still coming out in this type of genre. It's almost as if you can just choose one pop rock band to add to your musical arsenal, and you'll never need to hear another one again. I mean, why go through the trouble of having 10 different artists all creating almost the same cd's consistently?

So enter Fallbrooke into the music scene. They are a new band gaining some buzz around the country with their new self-titled full length. Who knows, maybe these 4 kids have something to say musically that hasn't been heard before. Maybe they're creating a breath of fresh air into pop rock today, something that no one else is doing, something this genre needs before it fizzles away. So what's the verdict on this new band taking a stab at Pop? Unfortunately, they are just another band to tack onto your tally chart.

The CD actually begins rather solidly with the two tracks "Take Me Under" and "I Can't Get You". Both songs are nothing new to songwriting but are probably the two most listen-worthy on the entire cd. "Take Me Under" has a commanding riff throughout the chorus and more of an upbeat vibe that a lot of similar bands avoid. "I Can't Get You," the second song, is another simple song but the chorus is extremely catchy and it actually makes the track memorable. Unfortunately, it's only downhill from here.

The rest of the CD is just a re-hashing of the same formula every song. The songs begin to blend and the album's retaining value deteriorates. The lyrics are childish in every song and almost always seem to be focused on some sort of relationship. To sum it up, the CD is ten of the same songs, with just a different chorus. Although the vocals are pretty decent and the melodies are catchy, this doesn't make up for the entire record's lack of creativity. They even throw in the necessary slow acoustic love song that every pop rock CD needs to be complete.

All in all, I'm sure Fallbrooke could attract fans with their sound, however it is very weak musically. The songs lack creativity or diversity of any kind. If you're looking for something new, I'd turn the other cheek. However, if you're looking for a less quality version of all your favorite pop rock bands, well then, you've come to the right place.

I agree with most of what you said, but I personally think "Losin' It" is the best track on the album, with "Take Me Under" a close second. Outside of those two tracks, meh.

They do have some potential though.

Their single is the best song on the album, I'm thinking about buying this only because they are up to their eyebrows in label debt.

Fallbrooke has been around for ages, these guys are hardly new. They were a band in South Florida around 05/06 and then got signed, moved out to California, got a makeover, and took 3 years to write an album. Its laughable. lol

Not laughable at all. Bands sometimes make life changing decisions they think will ultimately put them on the short track to a successful career. The jury is still out on this decision though... The whole LA thing was ultimately the right choice IMHO. They learned alot. I just wish they had more creative control over their music. I happen to know firsthand how talented they really are and what they're actually capable of. Both Eric & Augusto are brilliant songwriters. Hit me up next time you're at TTF, I'll show you some old stuff I have lying around. :) -KB

If you're saying they are talented musicians but didn't have much control over their music, than they aren't musicians. They clearly worked with a producer and changed themselves to find success. Its quite a common idea i think people on this website call it selling out.
