they tweeted a while back that they were working on it in the late summer/early fall and were hoping for a january release

I would venture to say they have already "blown up". The first time I saw them was two years ago when they opened for From First To Last, which I believe was their first legit tour, and now they're about to embark on their third headlining tour in January? Yeah, I think they've arrived.

i saw them for the first time opening for starting line in september of 07, i never heard of them but they blew me away. it was the friday before rise or die trying came out, that year especially up to warped tour they got real huge but the covers album last summer didn't make a lot of people happy (i was fine with it). but their co-headlining tour with set your goals this past summer, with fireworks and the swellers opening, was amazing. i've seen them 5 times which is the most i've seen any band and they never dissapoint live
I liked Explains It All a lot, actually.

I've said this countless times, but I'm really hoping they get rid of the goofy breakdowns and have a more straight-up pop punk sound in the vein of songs like "Wrecked Em, Damn Near Killed Em" or "If He's Here Who's Running Hell?"

I've seen them 6 or 7 times now, and I've seen them play a lot of songs, but I have yet to hear If He's Here, Then Who's Running Hell?
They played all of Rise Or Die Trying twice except for that one song. The rest of the times they mixed in older stuff and a cover or two. Haven't seen them since the release of Explains It All. Have I just been unlucky, or do they not play it?

Er they blew up about a year ago. Unfortunately I think people got over them. This new album should be good, since Rise or Die was a pretty solid release.

So fucking stoked on this new record. FYS haven't let me down yet. Seen 'em live twice and both times were fun as shit.

I can't really see them putting out another release that would top Rise or Die Trying, and I think it was pointless for them to put out an album full of covers. C'mon, who wants to listen to that? Maybe they'll prove me wrong though?

The type of music of they play i can't see them "Blowing Up". Only for the fact that the new albums from SYG, NFG, and ADTR generally recieved really positive reviews from fans and critics, yet didn't really acheive mainstream success. But with a good album they might be able to move from clubs to bigger venues.

Thank god someone else has this mentality. It gets cheesy after a while, and they definitely have the talent to just be a damn good straight-up rock band.

agreed, though i didn't mind the heroes get remembered breakdown. but the one in beatdown in the key of happy was just pointless... like they were trying too hard.

yeah, trying too hard describes it. sometimes it just comes off as ADTR-lite (who I despise) when it could be really awesome

Wait so is this record for sure coming out soon? Wiki says there's an 'untitled full length' in December, and I can't think of a whole lot that would make me happier than that. I saw them this summer with Set Your Goals and I can honestly say out of the 50+ bands I've seen live in the last year or so, they were my favourite show. Hands down.

They finished recording it a while ago, and as far as I know, they're done mixing it and stuff too. If I had to guess I think it would come out January/February

Haha.
I'm definitely looking forward to this album..I dunno if they'll be able to top RODT, or even get as much love as SYG did this year, but I'm excited nontheless.
Also, I can't really see them getting any bigger than they are now..like, I'm sure AP will rave over it if it's good, and they're already pretty well known in the 'scene' or whatever, but I doubt they'll break mainstream at all.

It might just be me, but I love everything about that song, and the record in general. That said, I heard some bits and pieces of new songs at soundcheck this summer, and from what I could tell, they seemed to be branching out a little but, but still maintaining that signature FYS sound. It was hard to tell what were clips of songs, and what was them just dicking around, but everything sounded tight. There were parts that were heavier than ever, and vice versa. I don't remember much else, but I do recall a few cool snyth parts that Lyford kept playing over and over that sounded great.

Yes, the forums don't need 1000000000000 threads on "OMG GUIZ FOUR YEAR STRONG IZ LIEK SOOOOOOOO KEWL!!1!!@!"
There are official threads, and it'd be nice if people used them.
Edit: Plus unneeded and unwanted threads clutter the server, slowing the site.

i loved SYG's new album this past summer, and I saw SYG and FYS the friday after both of their new albums came out. it was honestly one of the best shows i went to. you are right, they are really well known in the scene and they got huge after less than a year of RODT coming out. FYS is already pretty big to me and i'd rather them not go mainstream, just to keep the shows that much more awesome and keep the 14 year old girls out of the crowd. the only thing is after seeing both of those bands with the swellers and fireworks and another band on the same night, i dont know how far my 12 dollar ticket could have gone to making them money. i want them to be successful but i am also being greedy to keep the shows small and fun. new found glory hit it big and was playing big venues co-headlining with good charlotte, and opening up for blink back in the early 2000s, but now they are back to small venues, which is great because not a lot of 14 year old tweens are there anymore, if they are it is because they grew up and are the age of most of the people at the show.
that's just me ranting about losing interest once music crosses over into mainstream and you have tweens cluttering up the pit

So by trying to do something to benefit the site I get criticized? Cool. The point is there are places for discussion, and if every time a new topic for a band comes up a new thread is made, the site will run slow as hell and you wouldn't be able to find anything in the forums.
Also, you criticize my age yet you type like a five year old.

First off, I agree with loving SYG's album..easily my favorite album out this year.
The rest, from what I can understand, I agree with to an extent. Bands getting more mainstream can go both ways, I think. Sure it sucks that they have more annoying fans and you have to interact with them at shows, but the band benefits so much from that. Being more successful means more money for them, which means more to be spent on recording. Which is a good thing for us fans.
Don't get me wrong though, I hate having little annoying fans at shows I go to. Last year I went to a local show with two of my friends that was a few lesser known bands. I think it was The Hint and a couple other bands opening for Rediscover. We went to see the Hint, and there were only like two or three other people at the show, and they were the aforementioned 'tweenies'. During Redicover's set, they all stood right in front of the stage and took pictures the entire time. About halfway through, the singer was like "you know, you guys are making this really awkward..." and it was hilarious.

i agree with you definitely, yea that was dumb of me to say that, i hope the best for four year strong, their genre of hardcore pop punk is my favorite as i feel like all the old pop punk i loved in the early 2000s matured or disappeared, these bands are a breath of fresh air for me. i wish them all the best, i just like the intimacy of the shows right now as those are the types of shows i have the most fun at.

You're not alone in feeling that way. When Gig Life came to Toronto in July, it was at a little venue called the Reverb, which only holds probably 250 kids for so, and FYS and company blew the fucking roof off of the place. I can honestly say I have never left a show so tired, sweaty, and overjoyed in my entire life.

lol i went to my gig life show after work on a friday and didnt eat dinner, i was so dead after set your goals (fys went on last that night and didnt go on til like 11:30), it was nuts and i was so tired for the drive home in the pouring rain but it doesn't get better than that.

Yeah I totally agree with you on that part too. I saw Green Day [my favorite band] this summer and, even though they put on an excellent show, it was nowhere near as enjoyable as it was when I saw NFG and SYG earlier this year and Say Anything a month or so ago just because the venues were so much more personal. In my opinion, the sweatier I am after a show, the better haha.

ive never seen green day and i love them too but believe it or not, the SYG/FYS show was the same night in CT as the Green Day show this past summer, both on a friday in July. i was gonna see GD with my stepdad and best friend but SYG and FYS was closer and cheaper and I just went with my best friend. i still wanna see GD though but im a fan of the older material, i do appreciate american idiot and 21st century breakdown though but nothing beats the international superhits
