Screamo is basically a more chaotic emo sound, usually describable by sound of powerviolence. And no, The Used isn't an emo band. A good starting point for emo would be Circle Takes the Square, Swing Kids, and Envy.

The used is really good but Deff. not an emo band. But then again, I dont really know what to classify them as so maybe they are an emo band???

The Used are pop rock/ pop punk.
emoeric
06/11/06, 07:39 PM
so thats what you call it.
The Used are pop-punk, or maybe melodic hardcore or post-hardcore, maybe.
Screamo is more Circle Takes The Square, Hot Cross, Joshua Fit For Battle, and many others

I can see them easily being labelled pop-punk.
I would say general rock maybe. Definately no punk influence. Much much closer to pop than punk.

I guess you could label a few of their songs pop punk but as a band overall, they have way to much screaming to be called pop punk and I agree they're not really punk either
I would agree with rock plain and simple

The last albums vocals were atrocious. So poppy. That said I still gave the album a few listens till I got over it. It coulda been worse I suppose.

well according to some genius on urbandictionary.com:
"The Used-After AFI, they are most definetly the best band on the face of the earth! And who cares if Bert McCraken spit on your friend?! I'd pay to have Bert McCraken spit me! THE USED ARE AWESOME! (and they arent no fucking pop punk band! so screw you!)"

i just think posting about what genres are and explaining them to people who dont know shit is fucking stupid. i went onto UrbanDictionary.com upon seeing the idiocy in this thread and had a good laugh at what people were putting down for the definitions of "screamo" and "the used".

emo violence was a joke term i hope you know, and is NOT meant to be used in place of screamo. it doesn't mean the same thing at all, and is more of a description of a style played a lot messier and grindy.
now, whoever thinks of underoath as a screamo band has some serious history to learn. they have little in common with emo/screamo bands. they use to be metalish, but i'd call them post-hardcore now, with metalcore elements.
the used are even worse. they are a hard rock band (i guess...) and have nothing in common with screamo.
c'mon guys.

ok, so does saetia take after powerviolence? does funeral diner take after powerviolence? do have any idea who coined the term "emo violence". do some reading you "insert lame and unnecesssary insult here that lots of people on this board like to do to feel superior"

i wouldn't have responded in that way if you hadn't insulted my intelligence in the first place.
bands that i'm referring to as emo violence aren't saetia and funeral diner. i'm referring to in/humanity, bucket full of teeth, dear diary i seem to be dead, etc.
and wasn't it in/humanity that coined the term?

Emo... Screamo they are both just excuses for depressed Mid-Western kids with too much hair on their head to whine about their girl problems. I rather listen to the Casualties then whiny girl music.

To enlighten yourself musically, it is key that you first accept one simple fact, which would be: you, in fact, are a fucking twat.
I admitted to being a fucking twat years ago, and now I'm in college!

if you read my post directly before this one, i gave you an answer. the fact that i had to answer such a question makes me think you have no knowledge about the history of hardcore music.

1. wasnt just you i was insulting, there were plenty of little kiddies talking about The Used
2. dear diary i seem to be dead is hardly emo violence.
3. yes, in/humanity did coin the term. it was a joke.

i mistakenly put them in that list.
and i was listing examples of emo violence. people often argue that "emo" is a dead term for its original use. it's all subjective.

this thread is being closed...by me. there's no reason to bitch over genres, they're just genres. people can like whatever they want, and genres are in the eye of the beholder. there are no definitive lines to be drawn. keep it civil here guys...not everyone is going to be into music like Hot Cross and a lot of the younger audience has a different definition of screamo, thanks to MTV and what their generation has taught them. Personally, I believe that both styles can effectively be associated with those genres because that's what they are commonly referred to by popular media - and in the end, they're the ones with the most say on "what's what" anyways. Regardless, it's not important and there's no need to start ripping into one another for generational gaps or musical elitism.
