AIDS, civil war, epidemic diseases, starvation, desertification, drought, malnourishment, and lack of education. Africa is fucked. What do you think the role of the outside world should be in the rebuilding of Africa? What steps can be taken to better the lives of the people?

I think Europe needs to start fixing, what for the most part, they CAUSED.

And i think america needs to help out too, that 16 billion, as long as it doesn't go to UN sponsered agencies, would be a good start, but i would like to see Europe help out some too, not to say that there not, but most of Africas problems are there fault.

Africans also need to stop electing or allowing dictators to control there governments.

First of all, it wasn't just America that enslaved Africans. Secondly, African leaders sold their people to whoever would buy them. They were greedy and sold their own people for whatever they could get.

HAHA, that just shows you know nothing about the subject, Most, if not all, slave traders were dutch, spanish, or portugesse (?). Yes we (USA) bought them (Slaves, which was wrong) but we weren't the ones who went over there and enslaved them, but nice try. Also most slaves went to the Caribean and/or Brazil, both of which were mostly Portugesses or Dutch terroritories or colonys.

Also we weren't the ones that colonized the land, and raped it of its resources, and then pulled out leaving the countries to struggle to rebuild themselves.

you do realize that America wasn't a country when the slave trade started, it was made up of european colonies? (england, france, spain, portugal, netherlands)

You are a dumbass. Africa's big problem is overpopulation. Us leaving the slaves there would only lead to a higher number of Africans occupying the same area of land. That sounds bad to me. Also, the slaves that we did take over managed to reproduce and eventually gave birth to today's generation of black youth. Luckily they live in the US today as opposed to Africa. Although I didnt agree with slavery, it turns out that in the long run, it MAY have helped the worlds situation. What I said is a far stretch, but removing the Africans from their land had nothing to do with the problems they face today, like I said, it may have helped.

It was the intervention of the industrialized world that hurt Africa, but not with slavery. We gave them access to technology that they weren't ready for, and now their population is more than they can handle. They were doing just find before we came in and introduced our way of living to them.

Slavery also took away the most productive part of there society, Males age 16 to 30, who would have been the future leaders, inventers, educators, soliders, and parents. See what you ignore is that for about 400 yrs, continuous generations of African males were taken from there home lands, and this is probably the biggest cause of Africas problems to day. What if the populations had had the ability to fight off European invaders? What if Africa had been able to foster Leaders?
