Qt's okay but I've never really understood the fascination with him. I prefer Martin Scorcese.

for this year and because of inglorious basterds, QT
Qt's okay but I've never really understood the fascination with him. I prefer Martin Scorcese.

I chose other, that would be Christopher Nolan
charlie kaufmann is miles ahead of any of the directors mentioned so far.

No. He's a great writer, but he's only directed one of his movies (Synecdoche, New York).
He did write the screenplay for my favorite movie, though (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

i know that. i'm just saying that that one movie he did write/direct, along with his incredible writing past, is enough to make him better than anyone in this thread.
You said he's better than any of the directors mentioned, but he's only directed one film, and it was his most recent one.
If I made a thread about great writers, he'd easily be at the top. But this is for those who have both written and directed the majority of their films.

well, in my opinion, that one film he did direct is miles ahead of QT's films.
and speilberg is great, but i prefer CK.

Christopher Nolan, Darren Aronofsky.
I'm just glad he's got 25% of the vote right now.
And yes, even though this thread is a semi-joke, I really do think he is. Every movie that he's both written and directed is excellent.

charlie kaufman. for greatest writer who has directed a movie he's written. ahaha... yeah, i still have to see synecdoche, new york :-(
i've only seen vicky christina barcelona and match point, but i really think woody allen is right up there.
Yeah. Woody Allen would be one of the people I would include if I were to make a list for the poll. Those who both write AND direct the majority of their films.

one of QT's movie is okay for 1/3 of the way. the rest of them aren't that good. kind of funny, but that's it.

Scorsese is okay, but I've never really understood the fascination with him. I prefer Quentin Tarantino.
I don't really pay much attention to writers/directors honestly but Scorsese just seems to make a good amount of movies I really enjoy. QT just doesn't do it for me the same way. Granted I haven't seen a whole lot of what he's done. Hell I still have Pulp Fiction on my to watch list haha. I did just see Four Rooms and it was pretty decent. Pretty fuckin' weird too lol. Because of Scorsese making The Departed, Gangs Of New York, Casino,Goodfellas and Raging Bull I think he will always go down as my fav writer/director. Not to mention he did Taxi Driver and Mean Streets that were both pretty good.

Seriously?
Reservoir Dogs: His debut and a fucking classic. #65 on IMDb's top 250 at 8.4/10.
Pulp Fiction: Generally considered one of the greatest films of all time. #5 on IMDb's top 250 at 8.9/10.
Jackie Brown: His overlooked film. Excellent supporting role by Robert De Niro. 7.6/10.
Kill Bill Vol. 1: #133 8.2/10
Kill Bill Vol. 2: #202 8.0/10
Grindhouse (Death Proof): 7.9/10
Inglourious Basterds: #51 8.5/10.
Even if his movies aren't the style that you enjoy, you should be able to understand that they are great films.

To me, Tarintino's main strength is dialogue. Other than that, I feel that there are better writer/directors that are better crafting a story then him. And not all those movies are 100% original. I think Kill Bill was originally an anime, and Inglorious Basterds is a semi-remake of a italian film by the same name.

Other than the title and both being WW2 films, there aren't any similarities.

my opinion is that i think his movies aren't anything special. i've seen better movies than the stuff he puts out, and couldn't care less if he stopped making movies.
the only thing i've genuinely liked is Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction. that's it. everything is boring/annoying/cheesy.

dude has one film under the director category. maybe you should reread the question the poll is asking.
not to put him down or anything, i mean, he's a brilliant writer as far as books and short stories go, but most of the film adaptions are crap.

I'm yet to see Inglourious Basterds, and I really want to, but I feel the vast majority of those movies are totally overrated. Pulp Fiction is one of my all time favorite movies, but I thought the Kill Bills were so average. Grindhouse just seemed to try to hard to me, and as much shit as I will get for this I feel that Reservoir Dogs is just above average.

so you really believe someone can't honestly think that qt is the greatest writer/director, even after they've seen movies from all the other great writers/directors already mentioned in this thread, without being a complete moron? maybe someone could acknowledge how good those other writers/directors are but still love qt for some reason. if i had to choose, i'd say cameron crowe was the greatest writer/director because i love his work so much. doesn't mean the other writers/directors aren't as good.

i don't know why you're assuming what i meant when i said exactly what i think.
his movies appeal to a certain audience who thinks it's magic or something. i don't understand why people go so crazy over his movies.
it's just my opinion, and i'm fine with other people having their opinion about stuff, this one just irks me

well, like i said above, making a poll with one choice being what your answer is, and the other choice is an 'other' option is incredibly stupid and moronic.
i'm not gonna make a thread like this:
who is your favorite band of all time?
choice a: mewithoutYou
choice b: other
it's narrow-minded and a waste of time.

You don't have to enter the thread, though. If you think it's stupid then navigate away from it, it's really that simple.

Not at all, if someone wants to discuss the possibility of mewithoutYou being the greatest band they could go into your poll, if not they can ignore it.
