I have no words for the US performance today. everyone was terrible, the outside mids had about 6 crosses and none of them were halfway decent, give me a ticket to germany if thats our best effort, fuck.

it's no shock we had a lack of scoring and skill...our defense was awful though. they owned the area in front of the net whenever they wanted to. i thought the coaching was bad too...their team was much taller and we continued to try and play over their head. we need to be a different team on Saturday or it's over already.

Yeah, they just need to be more creative in the final third, I can't see them getting anything against Italy though.

I wouldn't be ready to panic just yet. However, if we lose to ghana we should quit fielding a team, haha.

Even with that said today's performance was embarassing. The US are a better team than what they showed today which is extremely disappointing to see even though we lost to a great czech team.

Ghana may be better than I think but we still should not lose to them.

i hope we come back and really play hard, i don't care if we lose 1-0 or 2-0 to italy as long as we play MUCH better than we did today. probably the most disappointed ive been in us soccer since losing to iran 2-1 in 1998>:(

I wasn't at all impressed with italy's victory today, specifically the second half. I still have hope, if we play better.

IMO I think Germany played better on the opening day. The Czech's played to their potential, something no team outside of the Germans have done this tournament. I don't see them keeping it up with Koller being out and Baros not fully fit. In case you don’t know Baros has a pain in his foot that won’t go away and hasn’t allowed him to train, and Koller can’t walk, but an MRI confirmed that he hasn’t torn his hamstring.

No one has said anything in ANY of the soccer threads about the Czechs having no forwards. This pretty much ensures that they are out. They are going to suffer in the final two group teams when teams can just pile 8 in the back and give none of the Czech playmakers space. Italy can tie and advance (most likely) and a draw for Ghana is a huge accomplishment (especially after their performance against Italy).

Bruce Arena hasn't stated why John O'Brian didn't play. The football-ing gods over at ESPN blabbered about how this means he isn’t fully fit and all that. I'd expect him to start the third game against Ghana, but I don't see Essien allowing him to do anything.
