Fantastic and often overlooked songwriter. Released an excellent new album, Somedays The Song Writes You, in September and has put out several great ones in the past. Discover and/or discuss.

RIYL: Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, John Prine, great country/folk music

Whoops, totally meant to post in this earlier. Haha. I'm still fairly new to Guy Clark. I definitely dig what I've heard but still have quite a bit more exploring to do when it comes to his catalog.

I know I've practically been shoving this down your throat, but Somedays The Song Writes You is incredibly solid. Definitely worth checking out. What other albums have you heard? And by the way there's a name drop in "Cold Dog Soup" that I think you might appreciate ha (posted it up there).

Oh, and for those who may be lurking and need a place to start:

Highly recommended classic.

The quality of his output dropped off after Old No. 1 but he's been a remarkably consistent songwriter since 1992, and his latest is stellar as well. The Dark is one of my favorite country records of the decade.

I'd agree with that. The albums after Old No. 1 aren't terrible but I do prefer his later work. The Dark is phenomenal. And I'm glad you enjoy the new one; love the guitar playing throughout, and the Van Zandt cover as always is great.

Tom Waits! Haha. Very nice. Good song too.

I checked out that album by the way, definitely good stuff. Gonna try and get ahold of the new one next.

Haha yep. Cold Dog Soup is a great album and there's actually a Steve Earle cover on it too ("Fort Worth Blues").

Yeah it's definitely an awesome debut. As already stated I do prefer his later stuff, but honestly I haven't heard an album of his I didn't like. The new one is fantastic.

Ah, my 1,001 failed Americana threads. How I mourn thee.
