I want to see what I've missed that's great...

In no particular order so far - my "short list" includes:

Fun. - Aim and Ignite
The Bird and The Bee - Ray Guns are Not Just the Future
The XX - XX
Emanuel And the Fear - S/T
Built To Spill - There is No Enemy
Swan Lake - Enemy Mine
Real Estate - S/T
Avett Brothers - I & Love & You
The Antlers - Hospice
Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Vs. Children

Great Lake Swimmers - Lost Channels
Andrew Bird - Noble Beast
Maria Taylor - Ladyluck

Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer

That's 20 - I think.. that are in the running for me, I still don't really have it sorted out beyond that. And there's a few I'm just getting into with an outside shot, but this was a great year for music in my opinion. I could probably name 50 albums that I enjoyed a decent amount this year.

Anyways - what do you got?

Thanks, man. I've been doing my best not to miss a release this year.

Central Market is a solo album from the frontman of Battles, if you're familiar with them. An exhausing yet very rewarding experimental math-rock release.

Wind's Poem is by Phil Elverum (The Microphones, Mount Eerie). It's a wonderfully epic experimental album that combines black metal with folk.

Two Dancers is a very pleasant, dream-poppy release accessible enough that everyone should be able to get a lot of enjoyment from it.

well then don't be the guy that makes a list.

It's a great conversation starter and method of etting recommendations. i don't see why you're anti-list.

How did your favorite person not get an automatic top spot on the list?

ha In all honesty, that album gets better every time I hear it. By the end of the year, it very well could make its way to top spot. How many artists make an album this good 8 years after creating a classic on the level of The Glow Pt 2? (rhetorical question - I'm sure you could name a couple)

also quite entertaining is how much shit i catch for having Ben as my avy, as though it really has to say something about you personally - who you have in your avatar. everybody seems to think they're the smartest fucking person in the room, but can't comprehend for the life of them that their may be some irony or altogether different purpose behind what someone uses as their online persona.

lol wow, long memory on this one, or are you just stalking me? Did I hurt your feelings in that thread? Jesus.. the one time I get elitist about something on this board (in a half serious way, mind you), somebody holds onto it like i fucking killed their dog.

And I don't have to show you - search through your posts in this forum alone, I the entire first page of your results are almost ALL you entering a thread just to mock other people's tastes. I found 20 places you did this alone in the last week lol, I'd hate to keep searching...

While I agree that I did the same thing in that beer thread, I treat beer altogether differently than music, as quality is much easier to identify in a "food" product, and there's a lot less subjectivity involved in measuring (basic) said quality, which i went on to explain in that thread - for that matter, there's quality music in many genre's but for some reason fans of certain genre's feel the need to always shit on ANY OTHER genre, and then you get elitist pricks like yourself who just shit on ANYTHING they don't like regardless of genre or quality.

The other thing I see you doing a lot in my quick search is hating on the AP forums altogether, as if somebody is forcing you to hang around here and read threads in the music forum. lol, it's just sad really, leave if you hate it so much. get the contact info of the people you are friends with from here and talk to them over AIM, or start your own l33t board for people as cool as you, if they even exist. Don't fucking whine about everyone else's musical tastes on a board you seemingly have no reason to be on.

Why are you so judgmental towards others? Two wrongs don't make a right.

EDIT: I blanked for a bit, I actually have heard some of the bands on your list.

Funs, Aim and Ignite was good... I only gave it one listen through, though.
I'll say this, I haven't heard a single band on your list, but I'll most definitely check some of them out. You seem like a guy that takes pride in what he listens to.

I like that.

As far as my list goes, I honestly have never taken the time to judge one band or album as better than the other. Sure, I'll come out and voice my opinion on a band, but I've never have been much of a list guy... It just doesn't seem ethical, musically speaking.

shit stroll, if you don't agree with the purpose of the thread, get the fuck out. We're all elitist when it comes to music in one way or another or we wouldn't hang out on a music site. He posted his list and asked others for their lists.

If he had given his list and said, "This is THE list, if you don't agree, fuck off," I would have a problem with that. YOU are the one with his panties in a jumble.

i just went through my past 15 pages and i couldn't find where i've done this. shitting on bands isn't the same thing as shitting on someone's tastes.

While I agree that I did the same thing in that beer thread
glad we agree on something. this is really the only reason i said something about your list in the first place.

quality is much easier to identify in a "food" product, and there's a lot less subjectivity involved in measuring (basic) said quality
i don't agree with this at all. how is there any less subjectivity involved in measuring beer compared to music?

for that matter, there's quality music in many genre's but for some reason fans of certain genre's feel the need to always shit on ANY OTHER genre.
you just did this by shitting on two entire genres of music and judging an entire group of people.

and then you get elitist pricks like yourself who just shit on ANYTHING they don't like regardless of genre or quality
pot. kettle. black.

I've kept a list of all 2009 albums I've listened to this year, in order of best to worst. I'm up to about 114 so far and still have some to go (a list of 40 I need to check out or put on the list). So that will probably be a blog post, not a forum post. But here's my top 10 so far:

Trophy Scars - Bad Luck
fun. - aim and ignite
Gavin Castleton - Home
Kevin Devine - Brother's Blood
Portugal. The Man - The Satanic Satanist
The Decemberists - Hazards Of Love
Jenny Owen Youngs - Transmitter Failure
We Were Promised Jetpacks - These Four Walls
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
Tubelord - Our First American Friends

what's your last.fm? i'm very intrigued.

It's funny to look at these lists and then recall which site we're on. You know one of these guys can't put down the new Paramore record, yet won't admit it.

Of course with that many albums, I haven't listened to each one more than once, though I try to. It's gotten to the point where if I don't feel it's anywhere near the top 20 or so, I don't think too much about where I place it on the list. I just go up from the bottom til I find one that it isn't better than and place it below it.

First of all, Its Christmas. Not Xmas.

Second of all, ADTR's Homesick.

Your criticism of that abbreviation would have a much stronger impact if you didn't go on to mention ADTR immediately afterwards.

(Hey guys, I'm making fun of scene music I dislike! Am I doing it right? I certainly hope so. All I ever wanted was to be loved.)

I've posted this in another thread, but I'm so pleased with myself that I'll share it here too: I bought a Mongoose bike today and did ghosties off it for over an hour. One of the ghosties caused the bike to go a good quarter mile before falling over. That has to be a record.

Off the suggestions in this thread - i've already fallen in love with:

JJ and Bowerbirds - still checking out some other stuff. But thanks, keep up the lists :)
