According to HitsDailyDouble.com (www.hitsdailydouble.com), AFI (www.afireinside.net) are headed for #1 on the charts this week scanning between 190-200k.
maybe i'm retarded. but i don't see what's so amazing about their music. someone please explain it to me.
i'm serious. i don't want shit. i just want to see why others love them so much. cause i just don't get it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, "Miss Murder" is really blowing up, and performing on the MTV Movie Awards the week their album was released is definitely going to help a ton.
Wow I did not see this coming! Is the CD that good? I know myspace has been whoring them out lately

AFI is one of my favorite bands now. They didn't start out that way.. on first listen I was like, "What in the world?" and now I love them.. they had to grow on me though. Each album has to grow on me, but then I love it.

What kind of answer do you want? Some people like them, some don't. There is no musical philosophy to it.

I don't know how to explain, its something that just clicks and thats why they have so many devoted fans. Its just like their name - A Fire Inside - I first heard Black Sails In the Sunset and I could really feel everything Davey was saying, you could tell how passionate the band is with their music. The depths of emotion they display can be felt through their records (especially earlier ones). After Black Sails I heard The Art of Drowning and was floored. AFI has a way of adding depth to their sound that is unparalleled. That record has a way of fluidly moving from punk rock to these beautiful slow parts, yet always having intensity. Since those days AFI has grown up and just continued to add depth into their music and lyrically davey havok is really interesting. If old AFI was selling on its passion new AFI is selling on the fact that they can explore new territory and be catchy without dropping musical integrity. Its really hard to explain, I dont think AFI is one of those bands most muic fans can just listen to once in awhile, i know tons of people who just get wrapped up in everything AFI. If you ever want to a how of theirs, just the feeling when they open up with their first song, its immense.

Start out by listening to there old cd's. Don't even bother buying the new cd its not worth it. Can't beleve they had over 100 song ideas and picked those 12.

i wouldnt call Black Sails their "old shit". Quite a few prior albums to that. Black sails is more their "kinda old, somewhere in the middle shit"

think about it, there are people that probably bought 6 physical copies of the cd PLUS bought it off itunes.

you are an idiot if you think enough people bought 6 copies that would make a difference in sales. Only very few afi die hards probably did that, not enough to make an impact.

Being an old AFI fan the first time i heard this album i was disgusted. but as i have listened to it more it has begun to grow on me and now i like it. for those of you who are disappointed keep giving it a chance.
ps: excited for their electronic side project

i just read up on all the crazy hidden messages, numerology, treause hunt, etc. that afi does. it's freaking nuts. and it helps me appreciate the new cd a lot more. like, according to some theories, the album is supposed to be played in this order:
track 1,4,7,10,2,5,8,11,3,6,9,12.
it flows better and the poem type thing in the lyric booklet makes more sense. afi is nuts. plain and simple. and those are crazy good numbers for them too.

Love this album. So much better than STS. Black Sunsets will always rule all but still, I really like this new direction.

We've all heard their "old shit". And we like the "new shit" too. Doesn't make us any less sCeNeCoRe than you. :-D
I'm loving the new album. It took a couple listens to grow on me but I am very impressed. Tracks 3-6 to me are the strongest part of the album, and I respect them so much for putting out the album they WANTED to instead of the album they were EXPECTED to put out. This isn't another Sing the Sorrow, and for that I am actually thankful. Sing The Sorrow was amazing, but this CD almost kinda brings AFI back to its roots in a way, but takes them in a new direction too. So many parts of this CD are a throwback to Black Sails/AoD and it makes me smile everytime I hear something that reminds me of their previous albums.
