RIAA say file sharing (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/services/2006-06-12-riaa_x.htm) is "contained," obviously don't know some of our members.

I wonder if they realize that using sharing networks isnt what most of us do. Yahoo has this really nifty thing where you can send files. AIM you can send whole folders. Its kinda easy. Someone gets new music first they send it to at least 3 other people. At least. Wow I hope the RIAA doesnt read this shit.

well if that person doesn't get the new music, the other 3 people don't get it lol.

BS. I dont condone filesharing but I do use it when I really want to preview something. Its out of hand, when I am in the soulseek chatrooms I am constantly being asked hows this CD(which comes out in 2 months) and do you have it or know a user I can get it from.
RIAA come get me. I used it to preview the Rise Against CD, and Punk Goes 90s.

The bottom line though, is the people I know that download music illegally consistently are still in high school. Bottom line...MATURITY!

File sharing contained? Right...

thats ridiculous, if anything filesharing is more rampant than it used to be. Sure the p2p programs are getting shut down, but there are now more sopisticated ways of getting music and now it comes out before its supposed to. We never used to have leaks, which in my opinion are a bigger problem for the artists than regular filesharing was.

the RIAA are very naieve if they think filesharing is controlled.

Y'know, I always thought that the more they talked about illegal downloading, the more curious people got about it, and "researched" more about it. Some kids were like "What? I can download music for free? Where?" and that's when file-sharing exploded. It was the RIAA's own attempts are trying to stop it, that made it get bigger.

Maybe now, they've realized that and now they're saying "Digital downloads are great! Oh, look, you can download any song you want here on iTunes! Neato!" Focusing on promoting legal downloading, instead of talking about how horrible illegal downloading is. Focus on the positive, downplay the negative.

the fact that they actually released that as a statement is laughable.
