They're rad, and not in a "ooooh, check out my vintage t" way, but in a "damn, the early '90s New Jack Swing stuff was boss" way.
I'm aware of the fact that everyone knows Poison, but it's really their best track (and album) and indicative of the absolutely fantastic production these cats had (Dr. Freeze had some of the most fresh and subversive beats/drum effects in mainstream music). Any fans?

Preface to the rest of the thread: Yes, we know. You faux-hipsters and your irony are super cool. When you type "never trust a big butt and a smile," we'll all laugh at your ability to type a lyric (and no one has accentuated that line for laughs before. You're really novel. Also, fuck soy. Rice milk is what we drink in our latte's).

I heard Mike Bivens (sp?) on a local radio morning show, he's promoting a band from South Jersey now called Major League or something like that.
He was an entertaining personality during their interview/discussion with him.

I need to listen to more Tribe, especially given my love for Q-Tip's solo work and Ali Shaheed Muhammad's production work in the last fifteen years.

Buying that season a few years ago on DVD is what got me into Poison and, by proxy, Bell Biv DeVoe.

Ha. Awesome. He apparently was the music director/coordinator for Seasons 3-4 of Making the Band as well, which recently wrapped-up. I wonder what Ricky Bell is up to. His voice was phenomenal.

Why would you want to "help it?" They're good.

Yeah, I know that. But a lot of times friends of mine only know them as the 90's R&B group who did "Poison" and doubt the fact that they're actually good.
So I love Bell Biv DeVoe, minus the "I can't help it."

If they've heard Poison, how can they not see their talent. That track was the pinnacle of their work and a finely produced track. Huh. Hootie Mack was a very cohesive album as well, with some phenomenal tracks in part to the production of Babyface (who was a force in the mid '90s), LA Reid and Richard Wolf, but Poison truly is their greatest achievement (both the album and the track).

Rad.

I'm definitely a fan. Coincidentally, that episode of Scrubs is what introduced me to them as well ha. Poison is the only album I have though.

This thread is fucking awesome.
I grew up constantly listening to Bell Biv Devoe and New Edition, thanks to my parents loving these bands. My parents went to a New Edition concert when my mom was pregnant with me, god am I thankful.

Dude, you live in Jackson? That's where my sister lives (and as a result, am staying for American Thanksgiving break). I'm doing the Black Friday thing at the Jackson Crossing, and I hope to see people get murdered.
That was very tangential. I'd recmmend 1993's Hootie Mack. It's a good album with fantastic production that would influence most of the Neo-Soul/R&B explosion of the mid-ninties.

Haha. I do live in Jackson, although I can't say I really enjoy it here. Be warned that there's absolutely nothing to do. I guess that's true of a lot of places though.
Thanks for the rec. I'll definitely check that out.

I find it interesting how enamored Jacksonians are with that Cascades thing. It's just falling colored lights.

Omg! I grew up with late 80's and ealry 90's hip hop and R&B because my uncles used to babysit me and they listened to all that stuff. AHHA Oh man the song Poison is just too much! lol

Is it a bad thing that I've never heard of this band before? Yeah, I'm lame. Oh well. I like what I heard. Guess I'll have to look into this some more eventually.

Never really enjoyed that. Then again I don't really think of myself as a "Jacksonian" (cool word), I'm originally from the Detroit area. Could explain my obsession with Motown.

Oh wow. Why did you move to Jackson, if you don't mind me asking. From Detroit to this place is likely a major transition. Did you live in Detroit itself or in one of the seemingly billion of suburbs surrounding it?

Well, as much as this almost necessitates a reply of "Oh, I'm so sorry" (in advance, it's okay and thank you very much haha), my mom passed away when I was younger and I moved here to live with my grandparents. It wasn't Detroit itself, but one of those billion suburbs you mentioned although I can't think of the name. I was around nine or ten so it wasn't as big of a transition as it would've been if I did it now. Still, I don't think I've ever truly gotten used to it ha.

Well, I would express condolences, but I hate to be predictable so, congrats on the DEATH MOVE!

Bumping this to remember to listen to Poison. Been crushing Bobby Brown's tunes lately, figure it's only fair.
