I want to get him a cd for christmas, or maybe a few. But i'm struggling to come up with bands.

He's like a typical dad, he things the 2nd kings of leon album was the best, and the newest album is the 3rd best.
He likes ACDC & The Ramones, but thinks the Sex Pistols were one of the worst bands he saw live.
Likes Blues music, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds (the band..), and David Grey.
Dislikes Bruce Springsteen a reasonable amount, but likes Neil Young - when hes not being too weird.
And he liked White Denim (Again the band) before the cool kids at school did ;-)

I was going to get him a Gaslight Anthem CD, but figured since he doesnt like Springsteen he might not like them.

My next choice is Dave Matthews Band album 'The Best Of Whats Around Vol. 1'.

Just suggestions, from my little explanation of what my dad like, would be very very useful.

He may not like springsteen, but maybe you should have him check out The Hold Steady.

Mark Knopfler put out a pretty great album this year. It was very bluesy. That's something from your dad's generation that he might be into.

On second thought, Nick Drake's Pink Moon is the only good option.

I was going to say that because I've been listening to him all day, but I didn't think it was suggested he would like that by his tastes.

Not that any reasoning person should ever dislike this album.

Well after having a listen to Bill Callahan i might well be buying that album for myself..

Right, now to carry on listening to the others...

Does he have David Gray's newest, Draw the Line?

Also I'd stay away from The Best of What's Around unless he's just getting into them. If he is, that could be a decent option or any one of their first three albums should work.

Yeah i was going to go for The Best Of Whats Around because he hasn't got anything by them, just seen a performance of them on telly and liked them.

You probably know which music your father listened when he was younger. Explore a little and then buy him a nice "targeted "CD. ;-)
