Yesterday the Edmonton Oilers had a poll on their official site asking if they thought the Oilers were going to win game 5 and radio djs in Raleigh told people to go to the site and vote no and before the people running the site realized it, it was 4% yes and 96% no.

I wouldn't be calling it 3-3 just because edmonton is at home. this could very well spark carolina and they could go in and shutout the oilers.

or they could collapse under the weight of potentially having the worst meltdown in any 7 game series in sports history.
Either way, i may actually have to watch the full telecast(s) of the upcoming game(s).

Ravioli-ette and the Whiners have to fall some time, or else there is no God. Both you and I know that the hockey gods would not let that scumbag Karmanos touch the Cup.

Hurricanes are going to win. Plus, the Oilers are the whinners because they are the one complaining about the Hurricanes taking out their goalie when it there own player that did it.

I'm pissed, I fell asleep going into OT...I watched the rest of it. That 3rd period was fucking intense

Funny how you seem to forget that the Oilers haven't complained about a damn thing until this series, but the Hurricanes have had many bones to pick with every team they've faced along the way.

Like it or not, the team you support - the coach and the players - do a boatload of whining.

Are you kidding? Every single time Roloson froze the puck he'd be swinging his head around looking for a ref to bitch at. It's funny as hell that he ended up getting hurt from his own teammate pushing a guy into him.

Carolina is not the only team in the league that "complains and whines". It's not like they invented this stuff, and it's not like no one else is doing it but them. If you really think that, then you're being naive.

What do you call Edmonton's centermen complaing about the way Brind'amour takes faceoffs? This stuff goes both ways, get over it.

Roloson is a dirty player and a whiner, yes. But he's not the whole team is he?

and Brindy does cheat on the faceoffs. Most centers do, he just got a little too obvious with it.

The Sabres were divers, the refs in the Sabres series were "horrible" ---but only when Buffalo won, and the ice in Buffalo was also "horrible"---but let's not take into account the fact that it was 90 degrees and humid in Buffalo for 3 or 4 days, and it doesn't matter WHERE in the world you are, if it's 90 and humid, you're not gonna get good ice.

Nothing against MOST of the Hurricanes (ie...the ones who stay out of the spotlight), but there are some straight scumbags on that team, and it starts at the top with the owner Peter Karmanos who doesn't give two shits about the fans of his team, all he cares about is making more money.

What makes you say that about Karmanos? I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but if there's a story behind it I really want to know about it.

From what I have learned (this is my disclaimer saying I could be wrong)

Karmanos moved the team out of Hartford because of lack of support. This was a smart move.

However, he chose to move the team to Raleigh over the other prospective areas because it had the chance to expand as a TV market (and therefore make him more money through broadcast contracts, etc.). Not because he knew he'd get a nice, solid fan base if he moved it to say....Winnipeg (not saying this was an actual choice for him, I don't know where else he considered moving to). He moved because he'd make more money from TV broadcasts as the population of Raleigh continued to grow.

I guess I should say he's more of the shrewd, business-like type owner who sees it as a business venture to put more cash in his pocket.

I personally am a huge supporter of the "fanboy" type owners; the kind who would keep the team where it is and do anything to put a good team together as long as they're not losing their life's fortune on the team. I love guys who always express their love and loyalty to the city.
Example: Rochester native Tom Golisano barely knew anything about hockey, but purchased the bankrupt (and then NHL-owned) Sabres JUST to keep them in town. As the first season progressed, it was obvious Tommy G was learning the game. But it wasn't until Game 7 of the ECF this year that I knew he FINALLY got it. After we lost, they showed him in his luxury box, and he had the same look of disbelief and utter disappointment that every lifelong Sabres fan had at that moment.

Carolina has the worst owner in the league. His name is Peter Karmanos, and he is king of the douchebags. When he moved the Whalers from Hartford to CAR, he did so at a loss rather than staying in CT. Basically for the summer of 1997, he pimped the organization to Columbus, Minneapolis, Nashville, and Raleigh. Eventually, he took a shitty deal in Raleigh because the state agreed to build him an arena to his specification. After the successful move from CT, he gave CT's governor a seat on his company (Compuware) board of directors. Even after his team made it to the Finals in '02, the Hurricanes were operating at a loss. During the lockout last year, he created the "we'll lose less money not playing than we would if we played" myth, which became a rallying cry. He called Keith Primeau a "petulant, pouting player" and a "prima donna" when he couldn't come to terms on a contract. And let's not start on their "fans". Carolina was outdrawn in total fans by two of the bottom three teams in the conference. They played to 83% capacity this past season, yet now everyone's a "Caniac".

And don't even get me started on the Durham Dirtbag Rod Brind'Amour. Say what you want about his play in Philly, but this past season he has played with trepidation and spoken like a coward for the entire spring. Fuck him. Fuck Bret Hedican for being sucha "great skater" but not being about to take a stride with a defender anywhere near him. Fuck Eric Staal for stepping on his opponents sticks and then crying for a penalty.

per my friend dave.

I knew there was more to the move being "scumbaggish" than just the TV deal.

Thank you, mikeford. For once, I agree with you.

Didn't the announcers say the Oilers almost moved to Raleigh? Or was that during the Buffalo series?

The injury to Roloson proves that there are, in fact, hockey gods. Now that Roloson is hurt, I can cheer for the Oilers.

To me this would be worse. Because it's the finals. I understand that the yanks blew it to their arch rival, but this is being 1 win from the winning the stanely cup and blowing it. I think it's worse. But really, they're both really close to one another in terms of historical shitty-ness.

in baseball, it is so much harder to keep momentum going.

which is why it's easier to erase a series defecit in baseball than it is hockey. Which if edmonton wins, makes it more impressive in my opinion.

i dont see how that makes any sense. you win one game in baseball to make it 3-1... but the next game is entirely dependant on your starter. there essentially IS no momentum in baseball.

in hockey, you win game 4... make it 3-1 but now you definitely have momentum on your side a little... win another game and it just doubles... tie it up and the momentum is HUGELY in your favor.

plus, its HAPPENED in hockey TWICE before. it had NEVER happened in baseball before. EVER.
