Despite rumors, Coheed and Cambria (http://www.absolutepunk.net/coheedandcambria) have not broken up. However, the band has been forced to cancel their European tour due to an illness and some personal matters. A statement from the band is below:
On the heels of a wonderful experience in front of 50,000 fans at last weekend's UK Download Festival and "Best Album of the Year" honors at this week's Metal Hammer Awards, Coheed and Cambria regret to announce they are discontinuing their current European tour.
From Claudio: "We apologize to the European fans from deep within our hearts. We were hit with an illness and some personal matters that we were unable to get beyond to finish this tour. We had been looking forward to doing this run for so long and we are very disappointed."
The band looks forward to getting back on the road soon.

I was going to submit this, but I've been so lazy lately, it'd mean I'd have to link everything.
Heh.

C&C isn't really my cup of tea. They have a few cool songs, but I'm not really a fan overall.

Good Apollo was the single biggest album let-downs for me in the past few years.
it sounded exactly like IKSOSE.

I registered for the boards for the sole purpose of disagreeing with you. Good Apollo is so obviously influenced by classic rock. Its such a departure from IKS.
9 times outta 10 peoples complaint about coheed is Claudio's voice, and that's pretty much the dumbest thing in history. The dude sings high and its different. Get over it. Theyre the most talented and unique band of the past decade. Pure ambition.
fuckin love it.

WHat is the point of running around message boards that have nothing to do with you if you are not a fan saying, "this band sucks." Are you that bored? Something must be lacking in your life. A purpose. Ambition. Perhaps all you need is a walk outside in the fresh air to clear your polluted, closed-minded head of yours.
I don't go poking around Panic! boards complaining about them...or Alkaline Trio (worst power trio ever)....or any other mediocre band.
-joe-
p.s. Go ahead and pick this apart.

What is the point of telling kids that when you know they won't stop doing it? Are you that bored? Something must be lacking in your life. A purpose. Ambition. Perhaps all you need is a walk outside in the fresh air to clear your polluted, closed-minded head of yours.

Oh, touche! but not really...
It is more of a general statement about the nature of message boards. It's not about anyone in particular.

Alot of my buddies are way into Coheed, and I like a few of their tracks, but other than that, can't say that I'm a big fan.
That being said, I hope their issues are taken care of.

1) if it was just like it, who would care? most times when a band sets out purposely to do something different they fail (Thursday, Yellowcard..)
2) but its not. thats why most people dont like it. they dont like the classic rock/blues sound shown on The Final Cut or the heavily Yes-influenced Willing Well songs..thats actually why i love it. its half-prog without being overwhelmingly so like Rush can be.

that quote from sometimes was great and picasso blue was spot on in number 2. while i dont want coheed to change, im gonna reject number one on the grounds that exploring music is contrary to what coheed is all about. coheed wouldnt be what they are now if they werent explorers.
i registered to this site just to voice my opinion on coheed
i was searching the internet to investigate these break-up rumors and found this thread.
coheed is for the musically enlightened, they sure enlightened me. ill just lay it all out:
- they tell a friggen story with their albums. you catch strange names in the lyrics, and you know they're not band members. claudio has even made random allusions to them in interviews (starland ballroom), and eventually you realize how huge their world is and how it towers over everything in rock. listen deeply enough and you can piece the story together, or at least one interpretation of it.
- caludio is lead singer and an amazing guitarist at the same time (early-on travis was singer i believe, before they were even known as coheed and cambria)
- they have dueling guitar solos (caludio and travis), that is so cool that i hope i dont need to explain why
- claudio's solo side project (the prize fighter inferno) is an insight into his genious, the man is a master
- they dont give a shid about being so different, they know that the people that figure them out are the only ones worthy of being fans. caludios voice being so different is like a test, just one manifestation of their uniqueness. eventually you realize its just a new way to tackle vocals and caludio is actually damn talented. in fact, high pitches are often the result of himsinging as a female or pre-pubescent male character. claudio's hair is another manifestation.
- the rock/blues style is the most amazing style in all of music, but theyr're so versatile that you know theyre not stuck to it - which is apparent in claudio's previously mentioned side project.
- they evolve dramatically over time, each album is so different - they get unbelievably better each time. they're the cutting edge, the true progressive-ists. people who say iksse3 and good apollo are too similar are meatheads who dont know what theyre talking about cause they have a large bone in the center of their brain. (credit to borat on that one)
i could go on, but those are my main points. i get the feeling that even some of my diehard coheed fans dont really understand what theyre all about, but maybe people here will get it. its hard to tell about that, this is apparently a punk website and i actually consider coheed nothing of the sort. they dont really fit anywhere, punk just has room for them for now. some of the posts on here were kinds discouraging as well, i honestly get upset that some people cannot recognize coheed's glory. i feel like a missionary, everyone needs to experience coheed. ive seen lists of movies you need to see before you die. applying that concept to music, coheed is a band thatevery one should experience. id put them in the top 3 of such a list. they truely are "the next led zeppelin" (an honor given to them recently by some magazine, maybe hammer or AP)
all this is built by caludio, you know all of them are necessary parts of the whole, but claudio sanchez is the heart. hes a genious, a savant, a prodigy. a modern mozart.
the problem with getting everyone to appreciate them is that it would kill their indie appeal. theyd probably be a lot different without that aspect. they are in a position where they can be as experimental as they want.
i know i went overboard, but you can tell this has been building up. ill go ahead and save the rest for later.
there's probably a better place i could put this, a general coheed forum, but im sure its been talked to death over there.
here's some further (awesome) reading:
