View Full Version : Politicians Make Me Mad

Google has weighed in (http://www.google.com/help/netneutrality.html) on network neutrality and it's a good starting point for information on the topic - I'd like to ask everyone to take some time to look at this topic, it directly relates to websites like us.

if they pass this im gonna blow up the house and senate...(seriously dont take it as a real threat, its a figure of speech)
PS and to correct your little headline, you should be more mad at phone companies... its their desire to control our visual lives

I don't really understand this, even after watching the educational video of Moby on MySpace chasing some people around asking about the topic.. but, anyway, from what I do understand.. this seems totally retarded and I see no point to it.

the government is pushing further and further to rape us of our rights (patriot act, anyone?) and if this passes it will be the pinnacle. if this passes we might as well burn the constitution and piss on its ashes. democracy is dead.
It won't happen, even the congressmen can see it, I'm almost sure of it.
Another scare tactic.

Lame.
let me lay this out, the telcos (phone companys) want to have a tiered internet (a pay scale of the internet). this means that if you dont pay that extra $10 or whatever a month you can't access video or streaming music (large bandwidth content) over the internet.
this is not good!
they would like you to believe that this will benifit the customer (how i dont know, because they cant deliever promised speeds as is)
this benefits the telcos, and hurts content providers from providing services (youtube, google, purevolume? and others)
in addition to this not making much sense, it also becoems biased. the Telcos will be rolling out there own televison content and thus not have to pay extra because they are the ones providing the the pipes
(for example does the water company pay for water? yes, but at the same time not really. if some water company wanted to open a water park, the over head costs would be alot less, thus making a killing) of course thats just an example.
support net neutrality, the internet should be flat and not full of hills.
people who support the tiered inter are At&t, Verizon, Cisco, on top of a bunch more, a new kind of internet means new hardware i.e. cisco would make a ton of money (they have already started deleoping routers and equipment that would support faster and slower internet)
content providers (google) would benifit from it being a flat plain like it now, but we (the consumer) also benefit. the only thing we need now is more choice for high speed providers

This is precisely why it WILL happen. You can't just stick your head in the ground and wait until it all goes away.
We have a Congress that is pro-business, and when businesses come to Congress with an idea that will help out businesses, Congress will vote for it.
I was shocked that it passed in the House. Our House of Representatives is supposed to represent the people, the democracy, not the businesses. The public not businesses, votes for a representative. I don't understand why the House would vote for a bill that benefits business at the expense of the people, but hey, that's politics for you.

Trends wouldn't blow up like they have in the past year or so, and those create jobs for people, as designers and server tech.
Innovation would just die out too, there was nothing like YouTube before it, and look how popular it is now. Everything else is under such strict control, and the internet is really the only place free innovation takes place anymore.

I'm not educated on this issue at all and in no way in favor of this Bill, but honest question:
Wouldn't there be fewer users on the high speed if passed, thus eliminating the drag high speed users eliminate now?
But if you dont use dial up how can they control your internet?
Confusing.Downgrade it to 14.4k and charge $30.

I'm writing letters and calling up. This has been pissing me off for a while.
And I'm going to calmly explain it all to my dad. In the end he'll have no idea what it is... but he'll understand it was big business and the government trying to fuck the borgeois... and get pissed off and do much as I am.

there are more web-based businesses at stake here than the few ISP's. i agree with you that our government is pro-business (pro-free enterprise economy), which is why they will be looking out for the best interest of the whole economy in this, not just the economical well-being of a few ISP's.
i would say the chances of this bill being passed is slim to none.

yes there would be fewer users, but that doesnt matter the speeds they promise now - 3/4/5/6 mbps are even fully reached, check your speed http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and yes there are other factors but unless your STREAMING HD content do we really need to pay MORE for speeds that we probably wont get?

holy fucking shit come the fuck on bush. I swear to holy hell that he sits in his office all day and thinks of ways to exploit new things to make himself and all the large companies more money. What a fucking douche. I seriously cannot see how anyone in the entire fucking world can see this man as a worthy leader. Even the poor hicks down south that have more teeth than brain cells SHOULD be able to understand the severities of his fuck ups IN EVERY CATEGORY POSSIBLE. Also, how can no one notice his underlying scheme here, its been going on for 6 fucking years now, same shit, every day. Exploiting the smaller man for the better good of the rich man. Liquidating jobs, giving his friends high ranking jobs... you have go to be fucking kidding me.
The guy is a fucking rat bastard. Nothing more. He weaseled his way into office (twice) and has done nothing but pull the wool over our eyes for 6 fucking years now. There are families in my town that are seriously moving to canada till 08 (thats not a joke). This is absolutely fucking pathetic.
I believe good old TJ said it well back in the day when he talked about democracy thriving on revolution every decade. Something has to be done here before this country goes to absolute shambles or else we might all want to pick up japanese as a second language.

i voice my opinon on all the review stickies cause i HATE them, but stickying this thread i could get behind, people need to know, people online need to be aware because the people how are like screw this i dont care are going to be the ones paying through the nose for stuff they dont need and should be paying extra for.
also another argument is that the providers are chargin more for people using more bandwidth, makes sense, use more pay more.
BUT IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE
they already are the ones charging for bandwidth, if they need to charge more as a whole then charge more no one is stopping them bow, but to divide the internet into groups is freakin rediculous

no you know what im fucking irate.
This country is so fucked in the head right now its ridiculous. Our jobs are leaving, our power is diminishing daily, no one is affraid of us anymore, our economy is flat fucking broke, we are involved in one of the largest military fuck ups since vietnam... and yet the american public seems complacent to sit around and wait till 08. Thats over a year and a half, and i can guaren-fucking-te you things are not going to get better in that time, only worse. Our soldiers in Iraq will be leaving there I will give bush that much, but all they are going to be doing is moving right next door to Iran. Im not going to rant on anymore because the more i do, the more pissed off i get. but i will close with something that sums up the condition of our country right now.
We blew millions of dollars on an investigation b/c bill clinton got head.
We won't even spend a dime to find out whats going on behind the scenes of history's largest scam of a presidency.

With more Wifi spots being setup across the country, it's only a matter of time before the Internet does infact become free (5-7 years?), so of course phone companies are going to be against this. The government should focus on getting more oil and cutting gas prices first!

i'd be pissed if i was in a small band that was trying to break out and use our site as a means to get info to the growing masses but can't because a) we don't fucking pay up extra money to have it the "all access" zone, or b) a decent size of the people we target cannot access the upper tier for one reason or the other. that's bullshit.
and for those that bitch about our representatives not representing we, the people? i am so right beside you on that. this is frustrating enough just thinking about this stuff.

GOOGLE can't pretend to be for net neutrality, while CENSORING it's own search enginge in country's like china. google, don't be a hypocrite.
If you bitch on this forum, and then don't follow it up with REAL ACTION (e-mail, written letter, phone call, physical meeting) with your politicians, then fucking fuck the fuck off, fuckers.
Bitch all you want here, but please, follow it up. [I know a lot of you will, but this is a shot against those who won't.]
This is a serious, pressing issue--and unfortunately, the people who understand it best aren't the elder council, ie, our government.

In Nova Scotia our cable internet is 10 Mbit/s for residential lines (fastest cable internet in North America). I can't see a company providing better speed than that at price people are willing to pay. Well not right now anyway.

In all fairness, they admitted that their decision on that matter goes against what they believe in and it's only a temporary solution to keep Google active while they try to get their searches uncensored. If it doesn't happen, I've read they're willing to pull out of China completely (but I guess only time will tell if that really happens).

ya and its even harder to have such a strong liberal view while going to BG let me tell you. It makes me sick when all my friends who are strong republicans still back bush like hes doing something great for our country right now. I really do not fucking get it. Is he giving republicans free bj's in the back of the whitehouse or something for all of them to think hes doing such a great job?
And by the way, this is not censorship, but it is right along those lines. Just like the bill that was signed a few days ago that radio personalities can be fined up to $350,000 (i think) if even one person says the word fuck on their show, or any other non family like vocab. Absolutely ridiculous. Bush has done nothing but set this country back about a good 20 years... thats it. Hes combining church and state, revoking all our 1st amendment RIGHTS, erasing all the hard work past pres. have done on lowering taxes, and widening the poverty gap... we might as well be living in the 20's right now.
