View Full Version : Chrono Cross was a terrible sequel.

Or "prequel" I should say.

Trigger had awesome characters like Robo and Frog and Magus.

Cross had like 5,328 party members none of which were memorable at all, and a jester and a lynx. Lame.

Trigger had slick, upbeat stylistic graphics.

Cross had horrible jaggies. Seriously PSX developers shouldn't have used 3D when not needed because it was ass ugly on PSX.

Trigger had some of the best music ever made.

Cross had um... a really cool overworld theme. And that's about it.

Trigger had the kickass multi-character battle system and enemies with multiple attack points.

Cross had the lame color system thingy, no multi-character attacks and most enemies had no real multiple attack points.

I could go on and on but the point is Cross was a terrible sequel and it makes me cry to think of what could have been...

chrono cross was an amazing game. and you were right the first time, its a sequel. not a prequel. how someone could think that is beyond me.

Well the timing always confuses me. I mean how exactly does it fit into Chrono Trigger's timeline? Serge's childhood doesn't seem to line up?

Either way a terrible sequel. How anyone can even put it near Chrono Trigger is beyond me.

Yeah but Serge is um... don't want to spoil it for those who haven't played it... SOMEONE from Chrono Trigger, right?

And yet where do the events from Chrono Trigger where Serge as that someone fit in?

all because they both have blue hair doesnt mean a thing :p
its just pure speculation brought up by fans of the game, and no solid proof. in fact, guile (CC) was supposed to be 'him' in disguise but the directors decided not to go with that story in the end.

Well I'm pretty sure that is what I gathered when I played the game, though being such a terrible game and all I quit halfway through.

Albeit the story was more convoluted than the Kentucky Fried Chicken guy's speech in the Matrix 2.

No, Chrono TRIGGER is classic.

Chrono Cross takes almost every amazing element of it and makes it worse. The battle system changes alone make it an inferior game, not to mention like... everything else.

what? get outta here. boo.

Every character is unique, has great dialogue to add to the storyline...the graphics were fantastic for the time, the story was very intriguing and interesting...

If you loved Trigger and played through it then IMMEDIATELY tried to play through Cross...well of course you arent going to be a big fan. Its 5 years later, a totally different generation and lacks the dream team development team.

Give it a chance

I didn't immediately try to play through it.

You have to be kidding about the characters though. There's what... 40+ of them? And since you can pick your party they all have generic lines throughout most the game... no character development at all outside Serge and Lynx and a few others.

And the graphics... ug. "For the time" usually just means a total lack of any stylistic direction. Take a game like Viewtiful Joe which looks sweet... it could have tried to use Full 3D models and tons of effects it couldn't handle, but it didn't. It just sticks with a sweet style and looks good.

Chrono Trigger had a great style. Chrono Cross just uglified everything with the bad 3D, and there was no reason for that since THE BACKGROUNDS WERE ALL 2D ANYWAY. It's not like the 3D added to the ability to move or explore or anything, it just made ass ugly characters and ass ugly battlefields.

Style > technology any day. Chrono Trigger looks much better than Cross, and that shouldnt be with Cross coming out later.
