So here's a thread for the U.S Open, which starts today. ESPN will be covering it, starting in about 20 minutes (10 a.m) until 3 o clock, when NBC will take over untl 5.

NBC must really need ratings, haha ....this is the 1st time I can remember that the first 2 rounds were televised of the Open were on a major network, rather than ESPN or USA.

anyway ...predictions? I'm gonna be pulling for Philly Mick, but I like David Toms as a little bit of an upset pick to win it all.

so much for Toms, haha. He's 6+ thru 13 holes ....wow. You can't win the Open on the first day, but you can certainly lose it.

The course is playing tough early. Only 11 of 78 players are at even or under par.

the first 2 days always has a 2 hour window on NBC. this is playing alot harder than i thought for a first round. but this is why it's my favorite tourney. i hate seeing players just making birdies every other hole and not having to work for a round under par.

I have Sergio Garcia making a charge and coming up short (top 10 perhaps)...haven't heard from him in a while

Seems like Tiger is struggling, he'll get top 20, but I doubt he wins it (+7, god damn)

Edit...after a 9 over, Toms is not a good choice

Needs to compete with ABC/ESPN for World Cup ratings...they will lose a lot of their daytime viewership for US Open because the WC is an even rarer event

Two names I expect to see high atop the leader board sunday, Michael Campbell (at E now), and Mike Weir (at +1).

3 guys are under par ...that's nuts. Colin Montgomrie is the leader in the clubhouse at -1, but Howell is still on the course at -2. I'm willing to bet that -1 ends up being the low score for the day. Mickelson looks good, finishing at even par.

-3 will probably end up winning it all though. I mean this is the 1st day and -2 is the best anyone can muster ...imagine the low scores on Saturday, when the course is typically at it's toughest?

Tiger is +7 ...wow! He's going to have to drop about 3 strokes over the last few holes today and tomorrow's round or else he won't even see the weekend.

They said that even par might win this Open...kind of reminiscent of when Woods was the only one under par and everyone else was 10 shots back basically...that kind of a course

Weather seems decent for them...though warm temps and wind are going to make it tough and fast come this weekend

yeah, tomorrow won't be oppressive by any means (right around 80), but saturday and sunday will be really tough on these guys. it's going to be reaaaaaal hot, especially sunday.

I think Furyk wins. I rarely bet against him in the US Opens because his game is so perfect for the event. straight of the tee, outstanding bunker players, great putter, and has won the event before so he doesn't get rattled. that's my pick.
