Is it stupid to buy tickets for a festival/show before you even know what the bands are...
or
is it smart to get the tickets ahead of time, at their cheapest, AND you dont even care about the bands, the festival itself is more than the price of admission ($100).

I think it's smart if you're into the type of music that the festival usually has. I'd probably get tickets to the Pitchfork Festival before the bands were announced because I know that there would be bands I like there.

I'd say it all depends on your personality. I enjoy the atmosphere, have attended for the last 4 years, and generally listen to at least a few of the bands at the festival. For me, it makes perfect sense to buy the tickets ahead of time for a cheaper price.
It's pretty stupid, though I will admit Bamboozle usually has a couple of bands I'd like to see live

i think the question is why would you buy tickets at all?
because there is always at least a couple of good bands that are playing.
i say you wait for bands to be announced and decide from there if your going.
