View Full Version : The Questionnaire You've All Been Waiting For: Aiden
Tony Pascarella
06/16/06, 03:47 PM
I will be interviewing Aiden (http://www.myspace.com/aiden) next weekend at Warped Tour. Please suggest your questions in the replies, but read the rules. I want this to be a fun and informative interview for both you (the readers) and I. Victory knows people on AP.net are not the biggest fans of the band, but I convinced them to do it.1) Questions such as "Why do you suck?" will not be asked.
2) Ask realistic questions (they can be negative, but anything derogatory will not be asked or may be re-worded). Crazy questions might be, depending on what's asked.
3) If this thread gets out of control, I will close it and come up with my own questions.Parts 2 and 3 of my Warped Questionnaires (Over It and Against Me!) will be posted next week.

* What distinguishes you from other bands today to whom you might find yourself compared.Thank you for taking this seriously. These are both questions I'll ask. I'm going to have a little fun with some of the questions, but it'll depend on how receptive they are to it.

What was the budget for the video of Knife Blood Nightmare, where was it shot, etc?
*What kind of make-up do you use on tour? (serious question)

Please do not take offense to this --
1.) I have noticed as of late that the music in the genre they play DO have a look, have you always been dressing like this? Do you have any older pictures of yourselves? I am curious to see how you dressed when you were younger. Is the make up for shock value.. or as you got into this genre you saw everyone else looked this way and that made you want to wear eyeliner? I understand that how you dress is not that important, but no offense it seems to me you put a lot of thought into the make up you put on, the clothes you wear. Let's say tomorrow you wanted to start wearing something else, would you do that? Or do you have to stick to this certain look as this is what everyone associates you with now? (Sorry that was long, but I have wanted to ask this forever)
2.) Would your life be complete if you you were invited on a Misfits / My Chemical romance co-headlining tour?
3.) What is your favorite band out there?
4.) What is your opinion of the Myspacers that take awkard angle pictures, wear make up, and have ridiuclous names like [Your Knife Is Cutting My Heart]TM
5.) How do you feel about the glamorization of suicide? Please don't tell me you agree with this.
6.) I have heard that you guys used to be heavy into drugs, do you now preach against drug useage? Are you now straight edge?
what is your history with the audition? personally, it seems weird that some goth clad hardcore kids would find kinship with some hollister/ae wearing nu-scene dudes.
and yes, i know that the question could be seen as superficial, but honestly, whats the deal? it seems to me that your interests (besides music) wouldn't really overlap. it seems the audition would want to spend their free time trying on their sister's jeans and you guys would rather slit your wrists and hang out at hot topic.

Obviously one of your major influences were the Misfits. However, from what I've heard, I cant help picking up a lot of pop punk influences. Did you listen to any of those kinds of bands?
I've heard that your songs are written as narratives, similar to eminem's songwriting. Can you give us a few examples?
What do you see ahead for the future of the band? Can you see the music you play becoming more popular, or less?
Ryan Phantom
06/16/06, 04:02 PM
Do they have any plans for a headlining tour this fall? If so, who will they brininging?
What was their role in the signing of On The Last Day?
How was the tour with H.I.M.?
What's the most interesting thing that has happened to them on the road in the last 6 months?
Were there a lot of fans dissapointed with the popiness of nightmare anatomy and wished you had stayed true to the same style on our gangs dark oath?
Who is the major songwriter of the band?
Ask Wil if Youth at Risk are ever gonna make another record. (Youth At Risk is Wil's old band and they were better than Aiden.)
What bands did everyone used to be in before Aiden?
Ask Angel and Jake D. if doing Aiden is better than being in college right now?
Does all the bashing on the internet ever get to them?
K, I'm done. I just have a lot of questions because I know the band personally, but they're so busy I haven't hung out with any of the guys for about a year.

Nitro wanted them really bad, but they went ahead with victory instead.
They actually had a message from dexter holland that went on and on about how he wanted them and at the end he said "nitro records and dexter holland want aiden!"
They were supposed to put the message as a hidden track at the end of nightmare anatomy but didn't.

And honestly, I don't have a problem with what they wear, I care about how they act. And from what it seems I'm sure they are nice guys. But what I can't handle is the mentality of their following, the way they try to look and god, the way they act is even worse. Here is a good example, some douche with a faux emo swoop was trying to get passed me, he knocked into me, and then said "watch it fucker" as he walked away. I mean, if you are going to say something like that, you better stick around to see what I have to say.
I think these looks have just gotten out of hand. EVERYONE has a look, but watching these cats just try to hard is nauseating. I wear what I want and listen to what I want. I don't dress to a certain music genre and I reallllllly know I shouldn't care but if I see another bro with purple hair and nail polish I am going to puke.

My Chem has gone platinum. They wear make up... to most people out of the "scene" they look goth. And YES regardless what you think, Aiden is trying to go the same rout as my chem. Just because they are both signed bands doesnt mean one cant try to capitalize on the others success.

Just because they're both popular now and they're similar has nothing to do with them trying to capitalize off someone elses success. That's a good question because I know victory put the same amount of money into aiden as they did hawthorne heights. I think more people just like hawthorne heights.I think they're the more accessible of the two. Also, people may see Aiden as a Hawthorne Heights knockoff (right, wrong, or indifferent) because they're Victory's "big" band and Aiden plays similar music. I think HH is better technically by a long shot, although I haven't heard Aiden's previous (now re-released) album. The vocals are just godawful for both bands, IMO.

I like 2-3 songs on nightmare anatomy. If you want a different perspective of the band, listen to their first record, the one that was just re-released because that one is just straight goth-punk like old afi. It doesn't have all the shitty pop hooks in it. Still the lyrics aren't great, but the songs are better.

i'm not entirely sure how to put this into question form, but i think it goes off of something from the first or second page.
i had to sit through this band recently on the alexisonfire tour. so aiden is playing their set & as a segue into one of their songs the singer is like "have you ever loved someone so much that you just wanted to jump out of a building & die with them?". like idk the mentality behind that is very awkward to me, i can't understand why anyone would want to promote such ideas.

My Uncle killed himself, so the last thing I want to hear about is how a bunch of grown man are moping over a chick and considering ending their life over it... truely pathetic. It kills me that the "Take Over" tour was filled with a bunch of bands singing about how their life was over because their gf left them.

Yeah...even something along the lines of, since they are within the bands that seem to cater to the misguided youth of America, do they feel they have any obligation, or if they have a moral sense that people may actually be taking it seriously?

My Chem has gone platinum. They wear make up... to most people out of the "scene" they look goth. And YES regardless what you think, Aiden is trying to go the same rout as my chem. Just because they are both signed bands doesnt mean one cant try to capitalize on the others success.
in your defense, the commercial Victory Records put out to promote Aiden's new record said specifically "For Fans Of My Chemical Romance", or wait, no, they actually called Aiden "The New Chemical Romance" at the very beginning of the commercial. At least i'm pretty sure, thats easily justifies the fact that Aiden is hanging on MCR's coat tails.
Edit: At least Victory Records is trying to push them into being MCR, maybe it wasn't their choice?

what is your history with the audition? personally, it seems weird that some goth clad hardcore kids would find kinship with some hollister/ae wearing nu-scene dudes.
and yes, i know that the question could be seen as superficial, but honestly, whats the deal? it seems to me that your interests (besides music) wouldn't really overlap. it seems the audition would want to spend their free time trying on their sister's jeans and you guys would rather slit your wrists and hang out at hot topic.
Back when they were unheard of, (I think it was last summer if I'm not mistaken), Audition, Junior Varsity, Aiden, and ActionAction all were on a Victory Records tour. It didn't do so well because there was hardly any promotion for it (the only promotion I saw for it was what the JV did themselves for it) but it was like a month and a half long tour. Add that plus Audition jumping onto a bunch of the 30 Seconds to Mars dates Aiden was on, plus being on the same label, you either have to form a kinship or hatred to get you through it all.
From what I've heard from people who've tour with these guys is nothing but good things. Crazy stories, but all in all good reports that Aiden's a bunch of down-to-earth chill dudes.

aiden does get a lot of shit though. i mean im not a fan, but i couldnt bash a band for doing what theyre doing. people love em, some dont. i guess the only thing i could ask would be what do they do to just look past the bullshit, and realize that there are people out there who do like them.
and also that one about the suicidal look and focus on lyrics is a good question. im anxious to hear that one answered. its seems like such negative route for a band to go on that has fans that range from a relatively young fanbase to an older one.

I think you're overestimating everyones ignorance on this site. People don't hate aiden because everyone else does. Most of the people who bash them have listened to them and just don't like them, whcih is completely in their right, espescially considering a lot of the people on this site have fairly high music standards.
And die romantic is a terrible song.

In your best attempt, how would you describe the music that you write?
Did you get along with the european legends of glam/goth-rock HIM? How was the tour?
Which are your musical heroes, beside the obvious [Misfits]?
Would you like to tour with AFI?
Do you encourage the notion that lyrics about suicide should be taken as a metaphor as opposed to being taken literally? Would you care to clear this up to your fans who might blindly follow them?
Do you believe that the negativity towards your band is created from the hatred towards your image? If yes, do you regret that people do not believe you're not jumping a trend, and see you as a spawn of the MCR success, even though it's fairly obvious you had that image before MCR got huge?
Would you evolve in your sound, similarly to other bands in goth punk that experimented and benfited from that? And how would you like to develop? Would you try to make your music more technical/complex?
Do you see the controversy and disbelief spawned in your wake being cleared any time soon? Would you try to convince haters with your honesty about music/goals?
Does/Did Wil take vocal lessons?
What inspires you lyrically? Real life doesn't seem to be a...fair answer.
When did you decide that goth punk is what you're going to play? And why?
Do you like any of your (apparent) colleagues - MCR, FFTL, etc.?
If Wil and JT played chess, who'd win?

I just told you that aiden has been doing their thing since they started, since before anyone knew who my chem was. Just because they're both popular now and they're similar has nothing to do with them trying to capitalize off someone elses success. Besides, gerard way is the only person from my chem who is comparable to someone in aiden. Your question is bullshit because you think because bands are similar, that means they're trying to get famous of of someone elses fame.
So what about Aiden's advert for their CD that said 'your new Chemical Romance' (which also used the MCR font)? I actually like Aiden and think they're a great live band and nice guys but you couldn't deny that was an attempt to use My Chem's name for their own success, which is why it really annoyed me.

I don't dress to a certain music genre and I reallllllly know I shouldn't care but if I see another bro with purple hair and nail polish I am going to puke.

your music, i believe, does not have at all a positive message. what does aiden have to offer? how do you connect with your fans? is it safe to say all aiden fans are fairly depressed people?
