Live review including setlists of Brand New's performance at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA, with Thrice and Crime and Stereo on November 14, 2009.

I have all 3 bands' setlists, but I was unfortunately unable to get any decent shots. If you'd like to contribute some photos, let me know, of course you'll receive full credit.

Brand New was awesome, but Thrice was even better and given a longer setlist really could have blown away Brand New.

Band needs to headline the NJ area soon.

any bands need to do this. what is with the serious lack of tours in the area lately?

gaslight just added that welmont theater show, but that tour would have fit at starland. same with the ap fall ball (gf dragged me to the one in ny), recent get up kids tour, this bn/thrice/gj show could have gone to welmont, say anything/moneen.. point is, not a lot of bands have been. my guess is starland isnt giving a fair cut anymore or something? all their worthwhile shows seem to have dried up and is now a nu-metal haven.

it wasnt that it was bad so much as it was inaccurate.

ive never heard them struggle playing sic transit gloria for one, he didn't play limousine acoustic, and i wouldnt really consider it a 'new found love' for screaming...hes been overdoing that for quiet a while now

1) "Sic Transit" is normally off sync to the bass line

2) Limo was solo acoustic in Philly

3) Jesse has never screamed through so many normally melodious parts

ive seen them 10 times. every time sic transit sounds fine.

he played limo solo electric the whole tour. on his blue standard-tuned jazzmaster if you want specifics

he's been screaming a ton sense the thrice tour, maybe you just havent noticed

ben homola is the percussion player by the way. hes also their drum tech

I've seen Brand New since the release of Your Favorite Weapon.. probably close to 20 times.. not that it matters since they've only been playing "Gloria" since 2003.. but it's usually sloppy. Aside from the performance earlier in the year in Ewing, I've never seen it really click.

You're probably correct about "Limousine".. he did play it clean, though, right?

And good to know about Ben Homola, I had no idea.

About the screaming.. compared to the two dates I saw earlier in 2009, Lacey screamed a ton more through a lot of the songs that used to be melodious. Probably somewhat related to Daisy.

i really think the screaming depends on his mood from night to night

There are a handful of good NJ shows coming up.

Check out the NYC thread, which includes NJ and Philly shows, too.

Some bands I'll be seeing in NJ:

Dropkick Murphys, The Gaslight Anthem, Thursday, Bayside, The Bouncing Souls, Weezer, Jack's Mannequin, Motion City Soundtrack

well then my question stands at why is no one playing starland. the gaslight show is at a pretty large venue, and the weezer, jacks, mcs is at an ampitheater, and tbs/bayside is at a tiny venue. the only one at starland, the last midsize venue, is thursday, but they do that every year. it feels that a lot of midsize tours are glossing over nj

Yea..

Starland is a strange venue.

Many bands pick Electric Factory and Roseland OR Starland.
