i could see some of their stuff relating to thrice-style.
they're unsigned, so you won't get that from someone else.

one of Thrice's influences The Refused

I think I have a Refused cd somewhere. It's pretty good but it seems too technical not enough melody for me.

Yeah It's the Shape of Punk to Come. All in all it's an amazing album but I rarely listen to it, it's really one I need to be in a certain mood to get into. Lots of discordant type stuff, not much harmony.
Never heard of Vaux.

Vaux! Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice will be one of the better CD's released this year, even tho it was kind of released last year already.

Dare I say Chiodos had a similar effect on me the first time I heard them.
They don't come anywhere near Thrice in terms of varying their sound but they're pretty damn good.
Check em' out.

It's also on Alchemy Index IV: Earth. But yes, Frodus is fucking good hardcore. And We Washed Our Weapons in the Sea is sick as hell

THIS THIS THIS
I'd call them a cross between Thrice and Brand New.
Maybe Terminal? I know you said no emo but they aren't (actually weren't) your technical emo band. Some of the guys that left the band are in Oh Sleeper now so nuf said.
Which reminds me of Norma Jean, some of their earlier stuff maybe you wouldn't like but their last two albums have a very powerful more straight forward rock sound like thrice.

*agree* I can't bloody find it anywhere in Australia though. (Maybe I just should download it illegally then donate $20 to the band somehow).

Current Thrice or "early" Thrice (pre-Vheissue)? For early Thrice...
A Wilhelm Scream and Strung Out are two definite contenders for comparisons.

Hey, if you guys check out this band, I promise you, you'll be reminded of Thrice. They have a really heavied out and emotional sound that mirrors what Thrice captured in their music. There are 4 guys in the band (just like Thrice) and 2 of the guitarists do vocals, but one of the vocalists even sounds a little like Dustin Kensrue. If anyone ever reads this message, go check them out because their legit and I think they have the talent to make it big. www.myspace.com/soundwavesonstrike
