I know he's nowhere near the best out there, but August burns red's drummer throws out some real tight beats... their cd died quick for me, but its always fun to go back and listen to his drumming

...discuss some other tight metal drummers

also, mastodon's drummer is insane, so toned down in their cd's.. a must see live to understand how great he is

btbam > you

their drumming is one of the strongest points of that album.

i love the style of the drummers from btbam, into the moat, and the bled.

everyone on this site seems to hate the band, but the drumming on the new black dahlia murder album is real tight, and their newest drummer is so sick live

but yea, btbam and into the moat are real sick

yeah i agree with all those, ABR, BTBAM and the bled. those three are great. aaron from underoath is amazing i wouldnt call them metal now though. also another really good nonmetal drummer is the dude from saosin, he's hella fast. i dont hate black dahlia, i think they're fun as hell

Drummers are weird in general. My friends and I tried to think of one normal drummer that we know... none.

BTBAM, Ion Dissonance, SikTh, TBDM are some of the best in metal today for drumming imo.

- Ben Koller from Converge is amazing at fills, tempo changes and just plain good, solid drumming. So good at expressing creativity by means of beats that catch you off guard, but always flow coherently. Converge has consistently remained one of my favorite bands for quite some time and he has consistently remained one of my favorite drummers. If you watch him play, it's crazy.

- Somebody mentioned Alex Pelletier from Despised Icon. Yeah, he is also really good. Especially versus most other drummers from similar metalcore-leaning-more-towards-death metal acts, who basically play breakdowns and blast beats. His style is really tight, his fills are super tight, his beats during breakdowns (which, thank god, don't usually consist solely of chugging) aren't generic and his blast beats are actually good.

For some reason, I always hear people compare this band to Through The Eyes Of The Dead. All that I can say about it is this: No. Through The Balls Of The Dead is an absolutely horrible and atrocious band with a completely typical drummer (not to mention everything else). And they are disgusting live.

- Derek Roddy from Hate Eternal, Nile, etc, is such a good drummer. He is so fast, his fills are insane, his double bass speed is insane, his blast beats are insane (and he can hold them for minutes) AND he is good at jazz and various other styles. That says a lot, especially when two of the most difficult drumming styles (to actually be really good at) are death metal and jazz (especially because they are hard for completely different reasons). I don't even really like his bands (except I like Nile a bit) but if you can't appreciate him as a drummer, you are a complete idiot.

- Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy is also really well known. I think it's fair to say that his blast beats are overall faster than Derek Roddy's, but his double bass work (and drumming overall, for that matter) are so so so so so so so inconsistent compared to Roddy's. I heard a drum solo from Flo Mounier and it was honestly horrible. So inconsistent; his blast beat was crazy and then it suddently sounded like somebody playing a beat who'd never used a double pedal before. I like Cryptopsy, and Mounier's album tracks sound tight, but in all honesty he is not that good.

- I forgot who drummed on The Black Dahlia Murder's Maisma, but I agree with whoever mentioned them before that, judging by his album tracks, he was really good. I haven't heard anything from their new drummer though. And the drummer on Unhallowed sounded like shit.

he still has it, they just changed their style a lot and he just doesn't use his abilities as much. theres some pretty good stuff drumming wise on their new CD though

Hella's drummer is insane live, I've never seen anyone so fast live. I also like Mike, the drummer for The Bled, he's cute!

(i hope people have realised by now that when I say "cute" it just means that I like whatever it is I'm talking about, not that I find them attractive.)
