I had always thought they were really shitty myspacecore, but my friend played me "Malevolence" from a mix he made and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit

seems like no one has mentioned Architects yet, you should definitely check them out. discovered them when they opened for ETID and BMtH a few months back, and they are solid. their new CD Hollow Crowns should definitely be checked out.

I'm probably biased, since they play local venues around me fairly often, but I like them a lot. Depravity is a really solid album.

I like A Critique of Thought and Mind so much more than Depravity.

I have that problem a little with When I Am God but SOTM has pretty much no filler for my tastes. It's just a solid album.

"Death Has Been Swallowed Up In Victory" is likely my favorite song of theirs, but Depravity just generally sounds better. Everything is much tighter and better executed.

I haven't really seen anything close to metalcore mentioned in this thread except for this.

Here's some for yeh.

And honestly, just stop going for the pussy screamo bands you've mentioned and just go for the talent. Veil Of Maya for instance.

Parkway Drive ad Chimaira.

I also second For the Fallen Dreams, especially their first album "Changes." It does have a particularly different sound than some other metalcore acts. Not many know of them, and I guess that the market is oversaturated with metalcore that they get overlooked.

You Fail Me is my favorite Converge release. It has the fast, raw, and aggresive moments we have come to expect from them. But at the same time they added a slower, sludgier, artsy, and dare I say progressive element that really makes that album special. It might not suit your tastes, but that dosn't mean it's bad or that they are inconsistent. They are artists who wanted to push their sound further

oh i agree. i never said it was bad, it's just something i don't listen to. and i think they perfected that progressive style with axe to fall, and to me that album is a more polished you fail me.

This stuff is still considered screamo regardless, just more with a pop sound to it.

And to comeback to your savvy vocabulary, i'm currently listening to the saddest landscape, which is real screamo as you would say.

How can you say they are the definition of metalcore, when there are much more metal influenced metalcore bands out there still? TDWP is very watered down.

edit: I'm hardly an elitist. I enjoy quite a few bands already mentioned in this thread.

Keyboards, clean vocals, growls, and shitty pop song covers will never be metalcore.

Growls & Clean Vocals.
Metalcore vocalists often make use of the death growl, particularly common among many 1990s metalcore groups. Today many metalcore groups combine growled vocals with clean vocals.

Shitty pop song covers? What shitty pop song covers? Are you referring to Still Fly... cause that is a hip hop song and proves you're lack of knowledge about genres in general.

Keyboards: Only true part about your comment. Too bad there is something called melodic metalcore.

Half of the bands mentioned in this thread do it. It's become common place for "metalcore" bands to cover songs outside of their genre. I could probably name about 30 "metalcore" bands that have done it. I have no idea what Still Fly is.
