Anything is possible if there are:
a. An audience.
b. Opportunities for commercials.

I remember seeing that one time while I was looking for something to watch. Odd.
There used to be a sweet show on G4/Tech TV that was like a video game tourney, it was actually fairly entertaining. I think they played Halo, Unreal Tournament, Tekken, and CS.

as much as this isn't a sport, i am actually pretty into MLG. back in the day i used to play competitively (halo, halo 2), was on a couple teams but never made it to an event.
some teams have signed $250,000 contracts (for EACH member) and theres 5 events, with $10,000 i think to the winner of each one. they also have some major sponsors, like old spice, dr.pepper, stride gum, etc.there's definitely money to be made if you're really good. it also makes playing halo 3 1000x more fun because there's structure and rules to their playlists, and everyones pretty skilled so your not dealing with a buncha punk kids or old dudes that have no idea what theyre doing.
so ya, its a joke to be considered a sport or to make a real career out of, but i'm a big supporter of MLG haha. i must sound like such a douche.
oh, and MLG is covered by ESPN as well. they have an MLG top 10 which uses the ESPN animations and whatever, and its featurd on ESPN's site. they have a partnership.

to take it seriously or whatever would be a joke, but there's tons of people out there that play halo for hours a day anyway (any college student). might as well make $10,000 off of it.
and the majority of the top pro's are 20-25 year old guys, who seem relatively normal. i think the whole geek connotation prevents MLG from getting any respect, which is kind of dumb cause those stereotypical geeks get made fun of within mlg too.

I fail to see why anyone would broadcast that on television. Magic has to be one of the most boring things known to man to watch.

Curt Schilling plays World of Warcraft.
And that's not to say that it's a sport, however, the people who play these games aren't basement dwelling nerds like you all seem to think.

I go to school at Ohio U. I've played against the Ogres in Halo (kicked my ass) and against Puckett at a Halo 3 release tournament at Walmart, and I worked him pretty good. I used to be really into competitive gaming, but now I'm more casual.

haha thats pretty cool. i used to be all about competitive gaming in H2, but for H3 it's most just online playlist. i don't do any of that gamebattles shit anymore. it's always fun to run into pros in the playlist though...such a good feeling if you pull something sick on em.

Yeah, that's how it went with me. Those guys would play H1 with a frat, so I'd see them around here and there, and they're from central Ohio, so I've ran into them at local tournaments quite a few years back as well. There are a couple montages floating out there that I've seen my friends names on, that's always great. It always feels better to be able to kill a guy who is essentially being payed to play.

I played Ogre 1 a few nights ago in Team Doubles, haha.
I play with a pro at least once everyday or every other day.
