some early season observations:
first, on Nova
-obviously, it sucks that Yarou is likely done for the year. i was banking on him playing 20+ minutes a night and being some kind of presence down low. we havent had a guy like that down low in years, and it looks like itll have to be put off a year
-Antonio Pena has reallllly surprised me so far. looks like hes taking his game to a new level. hes showed a few nice moves and looks to really have improved his rebounding
-im loving taylor king so far. he isnt great at creating his own shot and reaches way too much on defense, but those are things that can be changed. he seems to be really buying into Jay's team philosophy and is hustling his butt off out there. already looks to be stepping into the Dwayne Anderson type role from last year
-Scottie and the Coreys really havent showed up yet this year and played their best. granted, we havent played many good teams yet, and i expect they will, but still
-excited to get Redding back in a few weeks. keep forgetting that hes suspended
around the NCAAs:
- Kansas and Texas are the 2 best teams in college basketball. and its not even close. cant wait to watch their games this year
- UConn is not a great team. tons of talent, tons of size, but they just cannot shoot. i dont think theyre going to score enough points to be considered a great team this year
- Cincy is legit. VERY good team. ive been waiting for them to break out for years, and it looks like this is the year. adding Stephenson doesnt hurt
- i think Duke is better than they were last year, but they are still going to struggle mightily against teams with good guard play
- UCLA stinks

Yep. It surprised me that their fans stormed...especially since its not like that game was like the Illinois game where they stormed back from a crazy deficit. I understand when a team comes back from 20 down...or wins in double OT off a crazy final minute...those fans storm the court even if their team was supposed to win cause its sudden emotion
Yeah...I just make mental note of it now...because some teams will storm the court 3 or 4 times in a season, which always blows my mind.
My big argument against it is simple...in a well played game on ESPN or ESPN2, especially in an upset, the best player from the under dog gets interviewed...unless they storm the court, then the interviewer can't get to them, and those fans take the spotlight away from the player. At the very least, they spend the few minutes before they go to another game or Sportscenter talking about that guy...its those guys' chance for national TV time. Rather than the cameras being focused on the guys who won the game...its on the frat douches who run around like idiots and pop their jersey t-shirts
excellent point, dude... i never really thought about how it must feel to be the star player and not get your interview.
Wisconsin's win was not all that surprising, since they have a pretty good reputation... plus they lead nearly the whole game, i understand... definitely not worthy of storming the court.

Big 10 is still weak. ACC still has the edge from top to bottom.
Not trying to make any excuses for the challenge, but why wasn't G Tech playing in it? One of our best teams is the team that sits out...and FSU plays at OSU instead? Wake at Purdue? I don't know, I just feel like the ACC still has an edge, and its not just cause I'm biased.
But I will say, the Big 10 is on the rise. A lot of young teams. In a year or two they will be a dominant conference. But this year, still a little growing to do IMO.

The SEC was a total joke last year...they JUST beat out Conference USA for 6th best conference
The Big 10 the last two years has consistently been the 5th best conference (SEC being 6th)...each year finishing a few percentage points off the other conferences. The problem for the Big 10 is that the Pac 10 got better, so they swapped places, and because the Big 10 was so incredibly boring to watch, nobody wanted to talk about them.

Kansas and Texas are the 2 best teams in college basketball. and its not even close. cant wait to watch their games this yearI think it will be interesting to see where they both are in a month...Texas has UNC and Michigan State still, Kansas only has Cal and Tennessee until conference play
Also...its "game" sadly...they play once @KU, which KU will probably win by virtue of being the home team. Both teams rely on young players in key spots, so home court comes up big
- i think Duke is better than they were last year, but they are still going to struggle mightily against teams with good guard play
As they have the last few years...the problem is that while they have very good shooters, and finally a vague post presence, they still lack the truly explosive athletes that say, Nova, KU, and UNC have at their guard spots. Agains the best teams, it makes a difference
- UCLA stinks
As it stands...only Rutgers, Iowa and Arkansas are worse than them...which is a stunning turnaround.
By the way, Arkansas may be the worst major team in college basketball...my god have they lost bad games

Illinois will be really good next year. Their freshmen guards Paul and Richardson are the real deal plus they have a real good recruiting class coming in.

That's good because IU is getting better with their class this year. Might spark the rivalry back up a little. That being said Purdue will be nothing next year.

highest of fives to the Wisconsin Badgers! go Marquette too
- UConn is not a great team. tons of talent, tons of size, but they just cannot shoot. i dont think theyre going to score enough points to be considered a great team this year
Their issue won't be shooting, it'll actually be rebounding. They haven't had a really great shooting team in a few years, but they were able to cover up a weakness like that with good play on the boards. They haven't gotten good enough efforts from Edwards and Oriakhi so far. It's a given that they both lack significant starting experience, but they're both undersized compared to the trees UConn typically rolls out there. Thabeet didn't need to be as good to rebound at 7'3", but both of them need to be.
What Majok turns out to be is going to determine how far they go. He'll likely move into the starting role once he's eligible and his ability on the perimeter could open up the offense and make Kemba more dangerous in penetration. I'm not sure what he'll provide us defensively, but he's 6'11" so he should help us out on the glass at minimum.

I won't repeat the impressive rant I constructed, mainly because it was outrageously long and I'm lazy :) But suffice it to say I love our team and I'm really excited to see what they do this year, especially after last night's W over Mizzou! hey John, tell me this guy isnt serious and all Seton Hall fans arent this delusional:
First of all, Nova was down 10 at the half to American? Had they gotten any other midmajor in the 13-14 they wouldve lost. Playing UCLA at noon on a saturday in Philly was the lock of the tourney.. I made a ton of cash on that game as I'm sure you probably did too. Then you play 2 teams with no bigs, who always choke in big spots. Was there an easier road to the final four?
I'm not trying to "disrespect" nova. However the thought that your bigs are adaquate for this conference is laughable. Your 6 HS AAs are all guards, yet some will be playing the 4 because you have no one upfront . Even rutgers has better talent upfront than you.
And facts are facts. With any depth whatsoever you lose 2 years ago. Last year you won in OT due to a FT parade and a no call when Hazell was liiterally tackled on the game tying 3.
Your balk pressure will cause a lot of problems for a lot of teams, fortunately for us, we won't be one of them.
Pope will be first team all big east but feel free to continue hating on him. He put up the sane numbers as Pena is now 2 years ago at NMSU playing only in conference games due to the NCAA not ruling him eligible until the end of December.
Our frontcourt is light years better than yours, and with Hazells point production our backcourt isn't far off, and while yours is better, we have 5 big east caliber guards, whereas you have what, 2 big east quality bigs, a project who will be your starting center, and s kid who can't get off the bench
enjoy losing to teams who have no business being in games with you because you can't get a stop or rebound
Dejuan blair, maybe the best big in college basketball? WHAT?!

I'm just glad they didn't sit around there for hours debating whether or not this is the turn around for the Big10 and the demise of the ACC... blah blah blah.
Truth is, its a down year for the ACC. Big10 is by no means anywhere close to being the power basketball conference this year, but has several good teams. Wouldn't be surprised to see at least two teams from the Big10 make it to the Elite 8, and one to the Final 4. The (ranked) ACC teams that lost are just... well... over-rated. Clemson is notorious for not being able to produce when ranked. And I figured that by now, the voters would realize that Duke isn't a top-10 team and won't be until there are some major changes taking place there. For one, they can't just keep flooding the team with Reddick-wannabes. UNC is a Top 10 team, but not a Top 5 team. What hurt them the most was the voters not realizing how good Syracuse is this year, and at least now they've started ranking the Orange appropriately.

Who plays who is decided well before any of the pre-season rankings come out, etc. And since there's 12 ACC teams and 11 Big10 teams, the ACC teams rotate who sits out. It was just a matter of coincidence that this year was GT's turn.

How has Warren looked so far this season? I haven't caught Oklahoma play yet.
The last 3 games he's looked great. During the first few he was taking some really terrible shots, bringing it down and shooting it without making even one pass, throwing the ball away because he started to go up for impossible shots, etc. Recently they've been moving the ball much better and he's been getting the shots he needs. Like I said, though, I've been really impressed with Gallon. He still doesn't touch it as much as he should, but against AZ especially he might've scored 40 if they had given it to him every time.
