Is anyone else excited for the new season of Monk?

I really enjoy Monk, it's a very nice change from the usual detective stuff. So, I guess I'm excited, even though we are probably a couple of seasons behind. Damn Australia, its like we're a freaking third world country when it comes to TV.

Yeah. Shes pretty good looking. When I heard Bitty Schram left I knew they'd get a hotter, younger actress.

Definitely.

The first new episode of the season bummed me out though, it felt much darker than your average Monk episode. I guess that makes sense though. I mean it was funny, and still good - but the whole thing with Dr. Kroger dying was much sadder because Stanley Kamel actually did die, not just the character, you know?

Yeah, I think they're moving in that direction. I mean, tonight's episode sees Monk developing an attraction towards a woman, something I don't really seem to recall ever happening on the show before.

I dunno, I just think it's hinting at the fact that sometime in the near future of the show Monk will finally find some kind of solace or closure in the death of Trudy, capture the murder, and move on.

Yeah, the flashbacks with Trudy are nice. Have you seen the episode where he's on a game show? (It was on during the day yesterday I think). That's a good one. Plus two of the actors from the Shawshank Redemption are in that episode! haha. And since that's pretty much one of my favorite movies ever it's pretty awesome.

Plus one of the actors from the Christopher Guest film troupe (movies like A Mighty Wind, Best In Show, etc) is in it. And there's a Trudy flashback.

So all in all a sweet episode hah

It's awesome, definitely watch it. It's not an action packed movie at all but it's great. Plus Morgan Freeman narrates it. Win.

Trudy's dad from that episode plays the prison warden and then the guy who was cheating on the show is one of the inmates.

i think it's just lame because they set it up for something cool but nothing happened. at the end of season 2 they did the same thing except on 3's opener the actually followed up with that storyline. i hate the tease and then not even a mention of it so far. lame! haha

in season 1 he liked the woman who built the garage and had the crazy husband. i mean nothing happened but he liked her. there might have been another time too, i forget right now.

i am hoping this is the last season and then they make a movie to finish it all off with Monk solving Trudy's murder on the big screen. that would be sweet!

True. I hope so. I like the flashbacks with Trudy. And Monk happy?! It's so awesome haha.

the flashbacks are always cool. i think my favorite is the one where they show why he has that one table crooked. because Trudy would pull it close to use as a leg wrest and he would lay on her. so sad though, but great.

My heart is breaking. The FINAL SEASON premiere was tonight and it was great as always. I have not watched Monk religiously nor have I seen every episode or even close to every episode. I would like to buy all the seasons, but that's just a lot of dough to whip out for a tv show. There had been talk about a possible film, but I don't think that is going to happen. So, will Mr. Monk ever figure out the one case that has evaded him for so long? I hope he does.

CellarGhosts
08/07/09, 09:01 PM
To be honest, I just wasn't too big on the premiere tonight. It was enjoyable but I think there's been a noticeable decline in the show lately, from how it was a couple seasons ago. Last season was really hit or miss for me. It's not that I think any of the episodes (including tonights') have downright sucked, at all. I usually found something to enjoy about the episodes that didn't do much for me. But I think it's good that this is the final season, as it seems like it's just been running out of steam lately. I dunno.

Still, I am really sad to see it go because I've been watching it for so long and really love all these characters. But like I said, I think now's the perfect time to wrap everything up.

I agree with all of this, though the final season isn't showing here yet. I think season 6 is nearly finished up so I've still got a while to go until they broadcast the final season. I read somewhere that Sharona is coming back for one episode or something as a guest, which should be cool.

There hasn't been an episode that I haven't enjoyed to some degree but I agree that the last few seasons haven't been as good. I'm just hoping that season 8 just has some resolution (with Trudy etc.) and I'll be fine with it.

Yeah, I that was real good. I teared up at least 3 times.
I definitely started tearing up at the end during the montage. Few other moments had me pretty choked up too. I'm gonna miss this show for sure, but like I said - I'm glad they ended on a good note and it's great to see Monk finally finding some true happiness/solace.

I'm kind of bummed that Adrian had the answer all along. I'll miss this show. Glad it went out on a good note.

Should've included more of the 6-finger man and Dale the Whale, but overall I enjoyed it

Have all the episodes burning now. Will watch tomorrow. Sad to see it go, but I know they'll do it right..

Same here. I loved that part when Randy told Stottlemeyer that they found a cure for the poison and he cheers. It just made me smile pretty big, ha.

It is a bummer but I think it was a pretty interesting twist. I'm missing the show already haha. But I'm definitely satisfied with how it all ended.

I used to be addicted to this show, I started watching it because I had bad OCD. I kind of lost interest when Sharona left and they brought the new chick.

K, now all of you that don't watch Psych should either get on that and then mosey to the Psych thread or just do the latter, asap!

K, good. I just don't see you guys in that thread! It's basically Charlie and myself talking to each other it seems, hahah.

Well, it is between seasons. I don't know what I'm going to do without any of my usa shows until January.

I'm really stoked for Psych's return and I'm looking forward to White Collar too. Show's quickly becoming one of my favorites, even though I don't think it's nearly as good as Psych or Monk.

Man, It's just gonna feel weird without Monk on USA anymore. Even though Psych's my favorite USA show, Monk was a close second and it was such a huge part of that network, and did a lot to boost it's popularity, or at least put it on the map. It's got a more than solid roster though so it's not going to suffer without the show. I'm just really going to miss it haha.

But I've got Psych so I'm all good. :-)

Especially since they are moving Psych away from Friday, not having my Monk/Psych (or recently Monk/White Collar) Friday nights is gonna be real weird.

I'm actually behind quite a few episodes of White Collar so I still have something to tide me over til January.

I'll have to go out and actually do things on Friday nights. Hahah. It is going to be weird though, getting used to the lack of Monk and Psych's new scheduling but it shouldn't be too bad.

It was a great ending to a great show...I don't think there's too much more to say about that. I'll definitely miss Monk.

On the other hand, I can't wait till January when Psych/White Collar come back :D

USA's long-running series Monk exited with a recording-breaking 9.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched hour-long series ever on basic cable.

Overly sappy, inane plot twist with Trudy's daughter, Randy banging Sharona, montage at the end was predictable/lame, etc. All the things a finale shouldn't be.

Randy "banging" Sharona makes perfect sense. Have you not watched the earlier seasons? They've always had a playful relationship. Not quite sure how you can knock that minor storyline. It just showed how everyone was moving on.
