I can't believe these people think Palin has a chance to win in 2012.
she'll win when hell freezes over.

Pretty well done video. Thanks for posting it, I hadn't seen it before.

It had to take the interviewer a ton of patience and self restraint to get through that without arguing at all.

Not surprised at all by how little her supporters shown in the video know. (Considering she herself knows next to nothing.)

You've got to love those border issues Alaska has with Russia.

I have no problem in the world with Republicans. I have a problem with Palin.

Republicans - simply have a different viewpoint than I do. Palin - makes me want to look for the incompetent carne that is making her mouth move up and down to say stupid things.

Not saying I in anyway support Palin, but a video could easily be made making Palin supporters coherent and intelligent. If you get enough footage, it's easy to make anyone's supporters seem completely unaware and uninformed. Once again, I do not in anyway agree with or support Sarah Palin, but this video obviously biased. Oh, and it was posted by NewLeftMedia hahaha.

I know what you're getting at, but have to disagree because this is Sarah Palin we're discussing. If you have any common sense at all (which would be necessary to make an intelligent video) you wouldn't be supporting her.

Disagree with what?

This video intends to show that Palin's supporters are stupid. The same could be said about Obama's supporters (as was proven above). Who the candidate is becomes irrelevant since this is a commentary on the ineptitude of the american public.

Yeah. Who said "I can see russia from my house" and that is a basis for "foreign policy experience". That was fey and not palin. And palin didn't say anything close to that.

Take everything geebee says with a grain of salt.

Palin's dumb, and it's not hard to make her look dumb, but you can call her out on things she actually did. It's not hard to find something to laugh at. Unfortunately, the russia thing isn't one of them.

Her original quote

PALIN: We’ve gotta keep an eye on Russia. … You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing inside Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relations with all of these countries, especially Russia.

There is nothing wrong with that quote.

In the couric interview, couric tries to make something out of nothing. When you read the transcript with that context (the quote they are referencing) her statements don't seem too bizzare. Couric tries to get her to say something stupid (like the Tina Fey quote) and she does a good job. Palin is just trying to convey how close they are and how important positive relations should be. She failed at doing that, but not to the extent people would like you to believe.

I don't know, that clip was pretty stupid and it sounded like what she meant.

Fuck, I don't really know though, because I never actually watched the Tina Fey clip.

Couric asked her what she meant by her previous (innocent) statement, which I had quoted above.

COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Palin never said that gave her foreign policy experience. She simply noted that they are close together in an effort to show that it is important to keep good relations with your neighbor.

Palin responds with...

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land-- boundary that we have with-- Canada. It-- it's funny that a comment like that was-- kind of made to-- cari-- I don't know, you know? Reporters--

She stumbles on her words there, but she basically reiterates her previous statement. That all she was trying to say was the proximity between the two makes having positive relations essential.

Couric responds with...

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our-- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia--

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state.

Couric is fishing for a fey-like comment.

Palin notes that trade missions occur in Alaska. That is true. There is nothing false about that. She then goes to talk about that Alaska and Russia share a common air space, and as such, it is important to keep kind relations with Russia because, after all "they are right next to our state".

She fumbled her words and sounded quite stupid doing so, but she never claimed anything outrageous, and aside for the trade missions line (which once again, is true) she reiterated her previous statement. This really is a non issue. Couric wanted a fey-like quote and didn't get anything. If she did, HuffPo's headline would have been "Palin: Russia's Proximety is a great Foreign Policy Experience!" rather than "Palin talks russia with couric".

If Palin wouldn't have sounded like a bumbling idiot and actually completed a sentence or two, this wouldn't even have been brought up. She did a good job avoiding the bait (sans the trade missions line, but even that isn't bad or wrong if you know what a trade mission is) but due to her inability to master the english language, she made herself look bad.

If I'm a repub political strategist, nothing she said makes me upset in that interview.

This part:

Makes it sound like shes saying that because she was governor of Alaska she had some sort of additional advantage concerning foreign policy with Russia. All in all, I'd say you're right, but I can understand the other argument.
