Just watched the 2009 Palme d'Or winner this morning. Absolutely awesome.

Oh yes. As close to a potential 'modern classic' as I've watched this year. Really, really great film.

Need to rewatch it, thought it's one of those movies I don't really WANT to watch again.

I'm not familiar with this movie and tried looking it up but couldn't find a good description. Could somebody tell me what it's about?

Oooh, a German movie? Color me interested (even though it doesn't look like a film I'd normally be interested in).

The only film I've seen of his is the original Funny Games. I have quite a few of his others in my queue though.
This one looks/sounds interesting.

Will be watching this today. I'll update after I see it.
Edit: I didn't like this movie as much as I thought I would. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great, in my opinion.
I'll give it another watch and see if my opinion stands.

Haneke always impresses me and goes places I never expected with his films. He creates such tension without using the normal methods. His films frustrate me but in an enjoyable way. Easily my favorite director still living.

It's a toss up between Bela Tarr, Terrence Malick and Wong Kar Wai. Interestingly enough, all three are releasing films this year so maybe that will decide for me.
Wanted to say Resnais but I'm not sure you can really call him "active" despite Wild Grass.

I have Werckmeister Harmonies in my queue and should be seeing it soon. Can't wait. Kar Wai would be in the question for mine.

if I can ignore the fact that he hasn't made a film in the last 20 or so years that I've actually seen, I would consider Godard as my favorite living filmmaker.

yeah.. I know. But I'm not holding my breath for Socialisme to be anything extremely wonderful. still very anxious to see it, though.

Oh, I think it's going to be absolutely fantastic.
It's funny, Resnais, Varda and Godard releasing films within two years of each other. It's like a nouvelle vague resurgence.

really? I was a bit frustrated by the trailer, but I'll reserve judgment until I actually see the film.
yeah, I still have to see Wild Grass. And ol Agnes' new shit has definitely slipped under my radar. Probably due to her haircut.

Haha.
Let's see, what other nouvelle vague filmmakers are still going? Pretty sure some of those Left Bank guys like Marker are still alive. Rivette is still alive and making films. Chabrol too.
EDIT: Haha wow. Marker, Chabrol and Rivette have all made films within the past three years. Haven't seen any besides Rivette's.

wow, I feel pathetic. I haven't kept up with any of these guys. I just assumed they all died in the early 70s.

Do you guys think that if you were told when you first started jerking off that you'd kill all your nerves and die, would you have stopped? 3rd time watching the film right now and I always think about that, hahaha.

LOL probably not, because I'd have jerked off already on my own and known that to be a lie.

Yeah, but this is when you very first start out and you get told that over time, you'll die because of it. You wouldn't man, guaranteed. You'd fuck a pig or something if it meant getting a nut out and not tugging.

This movie took a couple of days to sink in after i saw it. Amazing movie all up though. Hadn't seen any of Haneke's films before this, but i am keen to check some out now.
Also is Bela Tarr really releasing a new movie this year? I have watched Werckmeister Harmonies but need to track down a couple more of his works. Master of the LTS.

I still need to see anything Tarr pre-Damnation. Sátántangó is my favorite movie of all time, so definitely watch that haha. It will be a long but glorious ride.

Oh mean! will keep my eye on that then! yeah that prospect of watching Satantango is still a daunting one even though i know the pay off will be amazing. I think i will have to order the dvds from overseas though, I haven't been able to find a decent specialist DVD stockist in NZ.

I'm hoping it will play at the festival here in Rotterdam, Tarr was also here with The Man from London.
