I like him, but he plays the same damn role in EVERY movie.
That seems to be everyone's reason to hate him, but A) He's still young. He's been in 6 movies in two years, some of which have been huge and everybody wants to stamp the typecast on him so they can easily hate him. B) Many comic actors played the same roles when they were young: Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy. It took Tom Hanks 10 years to come out of the typecast that he was more than just a goofy white comic actor.
And Jesse Eisenberg is basically Michael Cera. Let's not play the who's a better actor game. They're more or less the same.

Jesse is such a great actor.
The Squid and the Whale anyone? Seriously, one of the best movies ever made and he gives a great performance. I'm sure he will do great in the new Fincher movie as well.
With that being said, I really enjoy Cera. I don't think you can really compare these two though. They both have an awkward comedy about them but I consider Eisenberg a more "serious" actor.

ya, plus the whole "Micheal Cera" persona was really established in 2003 with Arrested Development and in 2007 with Superbad. This is the same shtick that Jesse used in Zombieland.

Jason Reitman saw some of it and raved about it:
"It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It moves the speed of light and carries more unadulterated joy than Ive seen in recent cinema."
"[Scott Pilgrim] does what everyone our age has been dreaming about: achieves the first all encompassing film of the joystick generation."
"I'm in awe of the sheer control in the filmmaking. It feels like a Matrix for love and how willing we are to fight for it."
"If I had a movie coming out next year, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it. Hats off my friend. Can't get it out of my head."

Liked him in superbad, Juno, AD...but I really think he is wearing out his act in some of his recent movies (paper heart, year one, N & N playlist).
Maybe it's not so much that even, but the fact that all recent "teen/young adult" movies have a Michael Cera-ish character in them. It's lame.

Do you really think you have a good point here, when the time between The Mask and say, Eternal Sunshine, is 10 years?
I see your point here. I just don't think we can make those comparisons just yet. Maybe never. Jim Carrey has reached legend status I'm pretty sure.

He's okay. He's gotten popular of the scripts though; I don't think he actually has any comedic talent. And he does play the same role in every movie. So actually, he does suck. Adventureland was so horrible too.
I tried making a Youtube video of every awkward moment he has on Arrested Development, but I was already over the 10 minute limit by half of the first season.
