yeah,i've had this Yamaha bass for like.....7 weeks...
In which time the nylon part at the top of the strings has broken on the D and A strings, which i have got replaced.
But now, after a week of having new strings, they do not pick up on the front or back pick-up properly and
when i push them against to the pick-up they do not respond!!
any ideas on how to fix this without having to replace my pickups?

it might be a faulty wiring job. take out the p-ups and check to make sure that the wires are securely sodered.

If you really want to dive in get a wiring schematic for your bass and a multimeter and make sure current is flowing everywhere it should. You might find that it's a bad pot, switch, or jack.

What do you mean the nylon part? The wrap around the end of the strings?
Anyways, first thing you should do is just open up the control cavity on the back (I assume that's where it is) and check for any loose wires. Also, did you try plugging your bass in with a different cord? That may be your problem right there.
