Is anyone going to watch this? It sounds more interesting than the other "American Idol" type shows. I see ads all the time, but I've heard absolutely nothing about it beyond that.

I don't watch Glee, but now that you say that I can see that. I was wondering where the idea for a capella groups came from.

I'll definitely give it a shot, though...didn't mean to shoot down your thread first post, haha. I dig anything that involves people w/ talent that I don't have. It just fascinates me.

I have basically the same thought every time I see/hear about a (supposedly) talent-based reality show, haha.

Definitely riding on the Glee train, but NBC needs a huge hit. So why not? It takes a ton of talent to make a truly cohesive and great acapella chorus, so this should be interesting. At least a little moreso than American Idol where it basically asks decent singers to perform annoying vocal gymnastics.

I watched maybe a total of 5 minutes of this so far (recorded it), and each time I hit it on them introducing the act with a sob story accompanying it. Ridiculous.

wasn't bad at all, rather pointless competition though. I'm a sucker for music and cooking shows so I'd have probably been sucked in no matter how bad it turned out.
I actually like Face (the group that did Bon Jovi).

Ben Folds was an awesome judge. I can't stand that girl though.
I suppose thats how it's supposed to go for these kind of shows though.

Ben and Shawn are extremely knowledgeable, obviously, and it's great to have competent judges for a change. I really enjoyed hearing their critiques. And I'm obviously not talking about the Pussycat Dolls girl here.
As for the groups, I loved the Beezlebubs. Hope they make it far.

Surprisingly, I liked them too, but yeah, they kind of look like they could be nasty teachers somewhere. Also, I had no idea Ben Folds was judging, which probably made me like the show more.

They should've either a) had more groups at the beginning or b) eliminated less groups. Which are both basically the same idea.

Nicole is just another pretty female judge making women look bad. She's hot and can kinda sing, but she's dumb.
They're doing too many songs that were on Glee. Not coincidental.
I'm a barbershop singer, and I'm enjoying the increased popularity (http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1946241,00.html) of a cappella singing that's been going on lately, with Glee, and now this. It is very hard to make a cappella singing look appealing and cool, and I'm all for any media exposure it can get.
The acts are a mixed bag, and there's way too much filler (recaps/judges/interviews) especially in the first episode, however there have been some great performances. Nota, Voices of Lee, and Beelzebubs (for their entertainment value) are standouts for me. Blending, tuning, harmonies, and volume balance is what a cappella singing is all about, and you can always tell when a group is getting it right (mainly because it sounds like ass if it doesn't). Technically speaking, Maxx Factor are probably the best singers there, but they just don't have the mainstream appeal (looks, youth, energy) to succeed in this type of show.
The judging from the guys is great - constructive and knowledgable. The same can't be said for Nicole, however.
The format of the show could be improved, but it's the first time NBC are doing this so they're probably keeping it short and testing the waters. I'd like to see longer performances (2 to 2:30 min, please *EDIT - finally did see some longer stuff in the medleys*), with more groups to start off with so we can get a bit more diversity.

Beezlebubs are easily my favorites. I'm definitely coming around to Nota since their performance of Down. Voices of Lee....don't really care for. Yeah they sing well, but their religious background coupled with all the inspirational songs is a little too much for me.

<------ Acapella fan. Also, I have friends in groups on campus and stuff like that, so to watch groups like these perform on tv is great. Obviously Ben and Shawn know their shit, and Nicole is obviously the Paula character (which I hate, but whatever).
Nota and the Beezlebubs are easily my favorites.
Basically. I can't believe that the Bubs are from Tufts; I can plausibly go to their campus for a performance, haha.

Unfortunately, Shawn and Ben aren't going to bring in the ratings... They need Nicole to lure in some extra viewers. It's dumb, but, at least we're now getting to see some talent on television. I enjoy the show and it's cool to have some hometown people representing. Voices of Lee may be cheesy but they blend so well and their bass is outstanding.

Yeah, I did like their medley, but something about their lead male just annoyed me. I think it was the combination of the glasses and mohawk, which looked totally douchey.

I love how they were all like "Everyone says we're like Glee but we're not like Glee so don't compare us to Glee," and then they sing fucking Don't Stop Believing. lol. Plus they all looked/acted like fucking Disney teen pop rejects. Especially that lead singer.

Great first episode. Better groups, MUCH better production. The ratings were also very pleasing. A show like this is a perfect ambassador for the a cappella community.

I'm a fan of this show. I really like that NBC doesn't milk it into a half-year season, because I probably wouldn't watch it if it were on for that long. It's a nice little nugget.
I think all of the final groups are great, but I'd have to go with Street Corner Symphony just edging out Committed, if only for their cover of 'Creep.' So good. Wouldn't be surprised if Committed won though, they're incredible.

Why I watch this show.
Best moment of the season so far. I liked the Pentatonix cover of "E.T." the ideas were great although the execution wasn't right on point like it is in the Delilah performance.
While the production isn't as massive, I love this show because it feels more genuine than every other reality singing show on TV right now. The judges give honest critiques using actual musical terms instead of "pitchy", especially Ben Folds, who is awesome. Most of the time, the least capable performers are eliminated, not the ones who bring the most drama or have the best backstory. And you can tell that the contestants are doing it for love of the genre (the prize is handy, but a cappella is never going to be Top 40 material), and really supporting each other despite having to compete.
Nick Lachey's puns are solid gold too haha.

I liked that cover too but I felt the female solo was pretty weak.
Agreed that Ben Folds is a great judge, but I'm not really a fan of Nick Lachey as a host.
Still really dig this show overall though, the groups are in general very talented.
