Jesse said they finished recording it last night though I assume that means mixing. They played Yeah (demo 8), demo 6 with new lyrics and sped up a lot, and demo 7. LET ME SET THE PICTURE FOR YOU.

Garrett Tierney on a rickenbacker bass guitar. Brian Lane on drums. Vinnie Accardi on piano. Derrick Sherman (I think that was him, right?) on more drums and Jesse Lacey singing at the microphone with an effects pedal basically in his hands. It was incredible. They added a bridge to that song.

Did they play demo 7 (take it easy tigers...) or demo 9 (we're burning our own tonight).
We have conflicting reports.

I can't wait to see them again.
Even though I saw them twice in April...

New stuff, and they must be excited to be touring again....

NOTES:

The Shower Scene was announced to be the first song the band ever wrote. I didn't know this, but I'm sure most/some of you did.

No Seatbelt Song is by far my least favorite Brand New song.. can they stop playing this?

Surprised to see Tatou kicked it off.

Play Crack The Sky was solo acoustic to close the show.

The demos sounded good, especially the dancy/keyboard one.

There were five people on stage.. not sure who the fifth was.

The opening bands were pretty lame. Colour Revolt was better than High Frequency, but neither of them were very entertaining. CR had some talent though, even if it wasn't a good time watching them.. I recommend skipping these bands and just showing up for Brand New. Brand New took about 45 minutes to set up.

This is the first time I've seen them not play Guernica and Good To Know.. fucking lame, I love those songs.

Jude Law was absent for the second time in a row (first time being the 75-person bar in NYC a month ago).

this show was so f'n good.

the only thing that strikes me as odd is that i could have sworn that i heard they were only keeping "Yeah" from the demos, and all the other songs that leaked were to be scrapped. them playing them live now is the type of thing that leads me to believe those demos were not leaked on accident. i mean, they were way into the fact that people knew the words, and jesse even made a little joke in refference to the leak before they played demo #6, saying "this one is number six". so either they leaked on purpose to simply keep people interested, or they just stopped caring and decided to play some new songs that people clearly would know and want to hear live. now, if they had only played "Cleanser" (track 5 on the demos) i could have died happy.

you're crazy if you think No Seatbelt Song is their worst song, you have that so backwards. sorry i needed to say that.

did anyone else hear Jesse say "Seriously this is the lat time" before Seventy Times Seven? I'm guessing it was in reference to the fact that they stated they retired it twice already. I have a feeling it'll be played a few more times. My guess is if they really do retire it, it'll be at Webster Hall.

demo 6 and 7 were my favorites and im so amazed they made the cut and still bouncing off the walls over the fact that i got to hear them be debuted.

as for the fella who wanted to hear demo 5 before he dies, i'm almost possitive it wont be on the cd. A very close sorce stated this, but honestly the new song they played at John Hopkins a few months ago "Take Apart Your Head" i belive its called, seems to be thematically the same with the same amount of engery and awesomeness and it was actually superior to demo 5

Two things I'm taking away from this show:

1. These demos weren't leaked on purpose- they were too unhappy about them being leaked. But now it's apparent that they came out and saved face by trying to brush them off as being irrelevant, so that people wouldn't listen to them. Because they're unfinished, because they're incomplete? No, because this was the framework for the album. I think you'll find that almost every single demo makes it on to Fight Off Your Demons... although I could be wrong. Can't wait till Webster in late July to see if they're play Cleanser or Lying Like Lions.

2. Did anyone else catch Jesse saying to Vinnie that "this is absolutely the last time" before they played 70 x 7? He wasn't saying it to us- he looked right at Vinnie as they were trying to decide what song they were giong to play, and he defeatedly looked at Vinnie and said "okay, THIS is the last time, then". So don't be surprised if BN stops playing this song altogether- at one point in the song Vinnie tossed his guitar in the air, and you can see that even though they know people love the song, it's so far behind them now in terms of songwriting ability.

I didn't notice Jesse saying that. But I wouldn't be surprised. The music they make now is very different from most of YFW. Even when I was listening to 70x7 on the way to work this morning I was thinking how much the first 2 minutes of the song doesn't even really sound like Brand New anymore.

Yea it was a sick show and the lighting was awesome too... The effects pedal on the demos really livened them up and Garrett and Jesse kept smiling everytime the crowd burst into verse. Jesse even forgot a verse in Sic Transit Gloria and no one really noticed because they were singing along. A double encore ended with 70*7 and Jesse alone playing Play Crack The Sky... only thing missing was Jude Law in my opinion

I saw Jesse go to Vinnie before 70*7 but thought he was saying this was the last song, meaning of the encore, but i heard a lot of people who were closer say it was the last time... either way the song was done amazingly and if they retire the song so be it glad to see it one last time
